‘thoughts’
Vegeta slowly roused from his sleep, but kept his eyes closed as he thought about lifting the heavy lids. After a moment, he tried the movement and got a blurry picture. He blinked slowly a few more times until the picture cleared. He expected to be in his room, but realized there was red wallpaper in this room. He moved his tired gaze when he saw something move at the corner of his eye. He noticed someone came to kneel beside him and was speaking to him, but couldn’t make out the words. He wanted to shake his head to clear the fuzziness, but realized it was heavy too.
“How do you feel?” He vaguely heard the words as his eyes finally focused on the face that made them. His eyes widened when he recognized the face. It was the very face that he wanted to see every day; the face that went along with a very attractive build…the build that he would remember seeing nude for the rest of his life.
Vegeta’s face had that longing look on it again as Kakarot stared at him with a worried expression. “Can you hear me?” He gingerly touched his face to get his attention, but that only caused those tired eyes to close and he sighed. Kakarot tried again. “Do you feel okay?”
Vegeta lifted a heavy arm to grasp a hold of the hand that was gently touching his cheek to keep it there. He opened his eyes, “You’re so warm.” He replied quietly as he memorized the angel face up close, his face blushing lightly from the warmth radiating from the hand. ‘What a wonderful dream this was.’
Kakarot frowned slightly and gently pulled his hand away. “Well…that’s because of your condition.” Kakarot changed the subject. “Are you in any pain?”
Vegeta looked at the gorgeous male in confusion. “Pain?” ‘I’m dreaming. Why would there be any pain?’ The wild locks nodded. Vegeta took in account of how his body felt and realized he felt numb…comfortable. “No.”
“That’s good. Do you remember anything?” He asked softly, as if just asking those words would cause the smaller male to go into shock again.
Vegeta stared at him in more confusion. “Remember what?”
Kakarot looked at him worriedly. “Never mind. Don’t worry about it right now.” He leaned in closer. “Now, may I ask what your name is?”
Vegeta’s confusion was replaced with a smile. “Of course. It’s Vegeta.” He breathed.
“Vegeta.” Kakarot smiled. ‘That’s what it is! How come I couldn’t remember? It’s the most popular name at school.’ “Do you need anything?”
Vegeta thought about it. ‘Why, yes. I need you.’ He smiled at the thought, but thought twice about his words. ‘What if this isn’t a dream? I don’t want to risk humiliating myself.’ “Maybe…some water?” He asked loudly and realized his voice was hoarse.
Kakarot nodded. “Of course. I’ll be right back.” He stood and left.
Vegeta sighed in disappointment at the retreating form and put an arm over his eyes. After a moment, he rubbed them then proceeded to sit up. He groaned at the effort and gasped when a sharp pain went through his chest. He tensed in confusion, but ignored it as soon as Kakarot returned. The beautiful male took a seat on the edge of the bed and handed him the water. Vegeta took the offered glass and gulped down the cool liquid. He was thirstier than he thought. He handed the empty glass back to him.
Kakarot reached out his other hand, after retrieving the glass, towards Vegeta chest. “We’ll have to change your bandage again.” He gently brushed the wound as he said this and noticed it was bleeding again. Vegeta gasped at the contact. “Sorry. I’ll be right back with another bandage.” He got up and left the room again.
An odd look came over Vegeta’s features as he looked down at the wound. He touched the edges of the bandage in question. ‘That’s odd. How did I get this?’ Kakarot returned a moment later, a little kit in his hands.
He took his place next to Vegeta again and slowly reached over to gently take off the bloody bandage. Vegeta sneered slightly in disgust at the cut. “It’s a deep cut, but it wasn’t so bad that you needed stitches. So it should heal up alright.” Kakarot scrunched his nose at the memory of the men attacking the smaller male while he raced forth to prevent them from doing any more harm.
Vegeta’s breathing sped up as it all came back to him. “Oh, God…” Kakarot stopped his movements as he stared carefully at the panicking male. “I-I remember.” Vegeta placed his hand on his head as he tried to stop the room from spinning at the rush of his memory coming back to him. His breathing sped up as he panicked at what almost happened to him. ‘What if it happens again?’ He remembered how Paragus always looked at him and believed that he would indeed do it again.
Kakarot put down the supplies and gripped the smaller male’s shoulders. “Listen to me Vegeta. You have to calm down or else you’ll pass out again.” He didn’t oblige as he continued to freak out. Kakarot tried again. “Vegeta, look at me.” He obeyed. “Slow down your breathing. You’re alright now. I’m here. No one’s going to hurt you. You’re fine.” Kakarot tried convincing him in a comforting tone.
Vegeta then closed his eyes and started doing what the gentle male instructed. He gripped his shirt to get a hold of his bearings and held back tears that wanted to come forth at the reality of the situation. Kakarot slid his hands down his arms to gently capture the smaller hands gripping his shirt; trying to get him something more comforting to grip on. After a moment, Vegeta couldn’t hold back anymore and broke down as he grabbed Kakarot’s shirt, then leaned his head against him and began crying. Kakarot froze at the close contact, but after a moment, he hesitantly wrapped his arms around the distraught male. “I-I can’t believe that…that bastard!” He blurted out in between his sobs.
Kakarot moved his hands in circular motions on Vegeta’s back as he tried to calm him down. “Shh. It’s okay now.” He held him closer in a comforting embrace.
After a while, his cries eventually died down to a quiet gasp every now and then. Then, the crying stopped altogether. Several minutes went by and Kakarot thought Vegeta had fallen asleep, but his thoughts were proven wrong when he looked at the blank expression in the silent male’s eyes. “Vegeta?”
He blinked slowly once. “Yes?”
“A-Are you okay?” Kakarot was becoming more worried about him.
He didn’t answer.
Kakarot’s hands stilled and the worried look stayed on his features. “Do you…want to, uh…talk about it?” He was afraid of the reaction to this question.
There were another few minutes of silence then Vegeta sat up and looked at the man of his desire. “What do you want to know?” He asked dully.
Kakarot hesitated. “Well, uh…who were those guys?”
Vegeta sighed. “It was Paragus and his friends.”
‘Now, I know I’ve heard that name before.’ Kakarot didn’t notice Vegeta intertwine their hands as he spoke. “Paragus…he sounds familiar.”
Vegeta nodded. “I’d be surprised if you haven’t heard of him. He’s raped a couple people in the past few years. The first one he got pregnant, but eventually had an abortion. Mainly because he threatened her if she didn’t. And, the second one’s still in recovery.” He blew out a puff of air. “It’s been two years and the poor boy still hasn’t gotten over it.” Anyone can only imagine what kind of abuse they went through. Vegeta just never thought it would almost happen to him. He took a deep breath then exhaled. That’s right…it ‘almost’ happened to him. He should be thankful that it ‘didn’t’ happen to him…and he has this beautiful angel to thank. He gave his crush a meaningful smile.
Kakarot froze at the information. He didn’t feel the need to ask why as the pieces fell together from the explanation. He was taken aback as he was suddenly embraced. “Thank you.” He heard the soft words spoken against his face.
His expression turned to understanding then he returned the embrace. “Don’t even mention it. I couldn’t idly stand by and watch that happen to someone.” He replied just as quietly.
“Apparently…everyone else could.” Vegeta said sadly. He didn’t want to pull away from the embrace. He could feel the warmth of the body against him. He was almost…too warm. Kakarot didn’t reply and just held the smaller male to him. “So, how long was I out?” Vegeta asked in a louder tone.
Kakarot pulled away to answer his question and gave him a hurtful look. “It’s Saturday. You were out longer than either of us expected.”
Vegeta’s eyes widened. “S-Saturday?” He looked around for a clock and stopped once he found one on the wall. “Three in the afternoon?!” He looked to Kakarot, who nodded.
“Oh, shit! My father’s going to murder me!” He held a hand to his head, not believing the hell he’s fallen into. ‘Let’s just hope he’s passed out from a hangover, but if he kept his promise, then he probably won’t care.’
Kakarot laid a hand on his shoulder and gently pushed him to lie back down. “Don’t worry about that now. Just get some rest and we’ll talk to your father. What’s his number?” He pushed himself off the bed and pulled the covers over the vulnerable form as he lied down.
“No!” He sat up. “I mean…no it’s alright. You don’t have to call him…but I really do need to leave.”
“Are you sure? I mean, you should really get some rest.” Kakarot’s concerned expression was back.
“I…” ‘What should I do? I finally get into the man of my dreams’ house, and now I’m going to up and leave? Besides, he saved me. He’s been taking care of me, maybe I should show some gratitude and stay for a while.’ “Okay.” He reluctantly lied back down.
Kakarot smiled in relief. “Good. This way, my dad can check up on you and see how you’re doing…oh yeah! I forgot to put on another bandage!” He quickly sat back down and pulled back the covers slightly to look at the wound on his chest, which started bleeding again. “Oh, man. I’m sorry.” He reached over to the night stand that he dumped the supplies on and grabbed a few cotton swabs.
“It’s alright.” Vegeta gave his savior another loving smile and watched as he took care of his wound.
Once another bandage was in place, Kakarot looked at it with uncertainty. “I hope I did it right.” He mumbled, then got up and cleaned up the supplies and proceeded to leave the room.
“Kakarot.” The teen stopped when he heard his name spoken. Vegeta’s smile grew. “Thank you.”
Kakarot returned a smile. “No problem. I’ll tell you when dinner’s ready. You must be starving.”
Vegeta’s stomach took that opportunity to growl and he blushed. “O-Okay.” He turned his head slightly as Kakarot chuckled then left the room. Vegeta threw his hands up to his face and pounded the heels of them into his forehead. ‘I can’t believe that just happened! First, I sob in front of him, then, I refuse his help, and now I embarrass myself! Wait a minute, I’ve been embarrassing myself since I woke up! No. Since he saved me! Ugh! I can’t believe he almost saw that happen to me! He probably thinks I’m pathetic.’ Vegeta’s thoughts went back to what Sentaro said. “He seems like the kind of guy that likes to help people…” Vegeta sighed and put down his hands to look up at the ceiling. ‘He really is.’ He could see it in the man’s eyes.
Vegeta must’ve fallen asleep at some point because the next thing he knew, he was being woken up by a sweet voice. “Vegeta, dinner’s ready.” He slowly roused as he felt a warm hand gently nudging him awake then opened his eyes.
He smiled at the beautiful face then stretched. “Okay.” He answered tiredly and yawned. Just when he was at the peak of his stretching, he winced at the pain in his chest. “Ow.”
“What’s wrong?” Kakarot immediately started circling his hands above the bare chest.
“Oh, it just hurt to stretch that much, was all.” Vegeta reassured him as he sat up and rubbed his eyes.
“Well, I think it’s time to check on it anyway.” Kakarot sat back down next to him and pulled back the bandage slightly. “Hm, I guess it’ll be okay for now. We’ll check it again after dinner. Can you stand?” He stood with his arms open, expecting Vegeta to just jump into his arms, and he would if he could find the strength to move.
Vegeta pulled the covers back then rested his legs over the side of the bed. “Yeah, I think so.” He put both of his hands on the mattress, and then lowered himself to the floor. When he stood fully, he lost his balance.
Kakarot stepped forward and caught him. He held him to his chest for a moment to see if he was alright. They stared at each other and once again, Vegeta felt like he did in the hallway. The world fell away and it was just him and this beautiful angel. “That’s the second time I’ve caught you.” Kakarot stated as he smiled.
Vegeta looked away and blushed, then proceeded to stand on his own two feet. He held on to Kakarot, just in case. He let go after being sure he could stand on his own, but Kakarot held onto his hand and led him out of the room. “After dinner, I could give you a tour, if you feel up for it.” The angel smiled and gestured about the enormous living room as soon as they entered it.
Vegeta looked around in awe. There were two finely polished staircases that led upstairs. A huge chandelier hung in the middle of the room and two couches adorned the polished, dark wooden floor that matched the color of the staircases. The couches sat on rugs so they wouldn’t scratch the floor and faced the biggest fireplace Vegeta had ever seen. A fire gently burned in its enormous pit as it comfortably warmed the room. He was wondering if the room was originally a gym because the room was ridiculously huge for a living room. “Wow.”
“I know. Ain’t it big? It’s probably the biggest house we’ve lived in yet.” Kakarot proceeded to lead Vegeta towards the kitchen.
Vegeta kept looking around the place as they went to their destination. “Was it like this when you moved in?”
They kept their pace as Kakarot answered him. “Well, no. It was really dusty, like no one’s lived here for years…but some of the furniture was still here, which was good because we didn’t have much.”
Vegeta gave him an exasperated look. ‘That’s not what I meant, but if I told him, it would’ve been a silly question anyway.’ “So, where’s dinner at? Are we close?”
Kakarot chuckled at the question. “It’s just around the corner.”
As they walked down the end of the hallway they were in and rounded the corner, sure enough, there was the kitchen; a really big, nice kitchen. There was a counter island that sat in the middle of the good sized room and wooden cabinets hugged the walls. One of those stoves without the grills (I don’t know what they’re called ><) didn’t adorn the top. So it was just a flat, gray surface with an outline of where the hot spots were (that was a pathetic description lol). Odd to have such a futuristic device in a house that looks like it was made in the 1800’s. A silvery gray microwave sat above the stove. The room was probably about half the size as the living room.
Kakarot’s father sat on a stool by the island as he waited for them. A smile graced his features as he stood up and strolled over to the two. “Hello, there. I’m Bardock, Kakarot’s father. It’s a relief to see that you’re okay.” He reached out a hand, waiting for Vegeta to accept it.
Vegeta looked at it then fit his hand snugly in the others.’ “I’m Vegeta and thank you so much for helping me and letting me rest here.”
They shook hands and pulled away. “Of course. It would be rude of me to send away someone in need of help.” Bardock nodded towards the island. “Go ahead and help yourself. You’ll need your strength.” He gestured toward the food on the island.
Vegeta looked at Kakarot for confirmation and he nodded as well and pulled him toward the hot meal. ‘I can see where Kakarot gets his kind personality from.’ He smiled as he sat down next to the man he keeps falling more for every second.
As soon as all the food disappeared into full bellies, Kakarot couldn’t help but comment on Vegeta’s appetite. “Wow, Vegeta. You ate like you haven’t eaten in days.” He looked at him with concern.
Vegeta blushed at the comment and fidgeted nervously. “Oh, he’s just had a hard weekend. It’s natural.” Bardock covered for him.
“Hehe, right.” Vegeta answered unsurely.
“Hey, how about I give you that tour now?” Kakarot grinned at the short man next to him.
‘And I thought it was going to be hard to get a chance to snoop around this place. All I had to do was…be in danger.’ Vegeta smiled. “Sure.”
“Great!” Kakarot grabbed his hand again and proceeded to excitedly pull him out of the kitchen.
“Kakarot, may I have a word with you first?” Bardock stood from his seat.
Kakarot stopped then turned toward his father with a confused look on his face. “Uh, sure. Hey, Vegeta. Go ahead and make yourself at home, I’ll see you in a minute.” He released his hand and made his way over to his father.
“Okay.” Vegeta answered quietly and stared at Kakarot with slight disappointment from him having to leave his side, then proceeded toward the living room.
When he got there, he looked at his hand, which was sweaty. ‘He’s so warm. Wonder why that is? Does he have a fever? No, he wouldn’t be feeling well if he did. Maybe…the house is too warm. But it feels fine in here.’ He looked back toward the kitchen with a careful expression. ‘Maybe it’s nothing.’ He looked at his hand one more time, then headed towards one of the couches and took a seat. His body still felt heavy and exhausted, so he couldn’t walk around too much. ‘I wonder how big this place is. Wonder if I’ll be able to walk around the whole thing?’ He slumped. ‘But hey, that just means Kakarot will have to carry me.’ He smiled at the thought. ‘No. I shouldn’t mooch off of his kindness. He’s already done so much for me.’ His expression saddened, then chuckled. ‘It’s almost like he’s trying to make me fall for him. The way he’s so kind to me and how he holds my hand whenever he leads me to a room. Like I’ll get lost or something…or fall.’ He grasped the hand that his crush held with his other hand and held it to his chest, then winced. ‘That God damn bastard. I should’ve ‘kicked’ him in the nuts instead. Maybe then I could’ve gotten away.’ He looked at the bandage covering the result of what happened.
Vegeta froze when he heard a noise in the back of the room. He turned to look behind him, but didn’t see anything. He waited a moment longer, then turned his attention back toward his chest, when he saw a dark figure in front of him. He screamed.

Bardock looked behind his son to see Vegeta leave, then turned his attention to his son. “How much did you tell him?”
Kakarot looked at his father in confusion, then when realization hit, a scowl took its place. “You should know me better than that. I wouldn’t just blab to someone I barely know. Who knows how they’ll react. Especially to Vegeta. He’s already been through so much.” A concerned look came upon his face again, but it passed.
Bardock was still skeptic. “Well, you did that last time and look what happened. You know better than to get too close…”
“You always say that dad, but what if you’re wrong? What if I can actually have a friend?” Kakarot insisted in a pleading tone.
“No! Haven’t you learned your lesson yet? You know what happened last time. I just don’t want you to get hurt again. Not to mention we’ll have to move…” Bardock ranted.
“Dad, it won’t have to come to that. Besides, that’ll only happen if I feel that I can really trust them.”
“Yeah…that’s what you thought last time. Let’s just hope that you don’t find someone that appears to be trusted, but actually isn’t.” His father mumbled. Kakarot sighed. Bardock gave his son a pitied expression, then took a hold of his shoulders to have his full attention. “Look son. I’m sorry that this is the life that was chosen for you. You know I want you to be happy, but I don’t want catastrophe to befall you while trying to achieve that happiness.”
“Well, sometimes you have to make risks in order to achieve some things in life.” Kakarot gave his father a stern stare and it was Bardock’s turn to sigh. There was just no talking the boy out of it.
“Just be careful son. Be careful who you choose.” Kakarot nodded, then they both jumped once they heard Vegeta scream.
They raced into the living room, expecting something horrid to meet their gaze, only to be greeted by the site of their pet licking Vegeta’s face and him laughing. He pushed off the gray, white dog and paused as he looked their way. “Is this a wolf?” Both Kakarot and Bardock nodded dumbly. “He’s gorgeous. Where did you get him?” Vegeta nuzzled the fuzzy animal and petted its thick fur.
Kakarot smiled at the scene and Bardock sighed in relief. “We found him wondering around our house when he was a cub. We figured he’d been separated from his pack, so we took him in.” Kakarot walked over to his pet and kneeled down next to it and playfully petted him.
“He must’ve gotten out again.” Bardock noted. “I’m telling you, we need a higher gate.” He looked in the direction of the space where they kept their pet.
“Oh, it’s alright. Besides, it’s rare that we have guests anyways.” Kakarot shushed when he got a stern look from his father.
“What’s his name?” Vegeta didn’t notice the exchange as he leaned down to pet the wolf again.
Kakarot turned back to him and smiled. “Rogue. That seems to be the name that most people think about wolves, but not some of them. This one, however…” He turned the wolf’s face towards him and scratched its ears. “The name fits. It’s odd, though. Usually Rogue doesn’t take to strangers.” He mumbled the last part, so Vegeta didn’t hear it.
Vegeta chuckled. “I’m sure that’s not the case. Some animals are like that.” He smiled and leaned back.
After playing with Rogue for a while, a thought occurred to Kakarot. “Oh, I forgot…onward with the tour!” Kakarot stood up from his position on the floor.
Vegeta grinned, then stood and stretched.
“Okay…let’s go this way.” He replied as he looked around for a moment. “I get lost sometimes myself.” He laughed.
Vegeta laughed along with him and followed.
