Pairing- Mariemaia Khushrenada VS Preventers Headquarters
Summary – Mariemaia takes matters into her own hands.
Special Thanks to my Beta Masa!!! Without him I am just raw talent. READ HIS
FICS. They’re really really really really good. :nods: After you finish this
chapter though.

characters.
Notes: Please keep in mind that a period of 8
Months has gone by.
Mariemaia paced nervously
outside the courtroom doors. Her hands were clasped behind her back; to ensure
she didn’t resort back to biting her nails. Her eyes were trained on the way
her long, pale blue dress fluttered against her black heels and she had to
wonder if she was dressed appropriately enough. Maybe a suit would have been
better? She huffed. Did she have enough time to run to the bathroom? For the
first time in her life she had needed to apply make-up and she wasn’t sure what
was supposed to go where and if she had applied enough. She bit her lip softly with
her teeth. She could not go in there looking like some sort of clown. Her ears
strained desperately to hear what was going on behind those oak doors. What was
taking them so long? She huffed.
Plainly put, she was a
wreck. It had been eight months. Eight fucking months and still there
was no word from Chang. No email, no phone call, nothing. He had never done
this before, ever. Fear and worried gripped her intestines and twisted them
into Celtic knots. Something must be terribly wrong.
Eight, long, horrible, gut wrenching months of worrying
and being left in the dark!
And, of course, Une had done nothing about it; stupid,
spoiled, selfish cow that she was!
Everything else had
been of more importance. Everything else had had a higher priority than
a missing officer of Chang’s caliber. Hell, even Sally Poe, who was his current
partner, wasn’t worried. Mariemaia had waited hours in the medical ward to see
her, only to be placated like some small, dumb child. It was ridiculous! No one
else cared that Wufei could be hurt. No one else cared that he could be
captured and tortured. No one else cared that there was blood on his office
floor!
How many times had she heard, “This is Chang, he’s fine”
. . . or . . . “Missions of this degree takes finesse and time; there is no
need to worry.”
It was bullshit!
Clenching her fists,
Mariemaia threw herself down on the bench provided outside the courtroom doors.
Smoothing out her dress, she looked around. Nothing caught her interest.
Nothing could stop the worry from running through her head. Nothing would be
okay again until Wufei was back home; safe and sound!
She huffed; this particular
part of the court house was empty. Other than a few passing guards here and
there, it was eerily quiet. Mariemaia could feel a twitch developing. How long
was this going to take?
With a sudden jerk, the
doors before her opened. Mariemaia stood, waiting for the guard to beckon her
forward. It was time to get her brother back. And no idiotic fool behind that
door was going to deny her. Mariemaia was going to do whatever was necessary;
even if that meant getting her guardian, Lady Une, fired for her incompetence.
A nod was given and she was
lead inside the courtroom. She strode past the benches on the left and right of
her, made specifically for an audience that would not be present on this day,
past the little swinging doors and into the center of the room. She would not
bother with sitting down at the desk and chairs provided behind her. No one
ever made a valid point sitting down.
In front of her sat the three men and two women that
would decide her fate.
Sitting in the first chair
was Lady Krystal Grey of Universal Telecommunications. Holder of the largest
communication systems for planet Earth, this woman, who had gray hair and kind
green eyes, looked easy to persuade, with a kind demeanor and soft smile.
Reclining back in the second
chair was Admiral Joseph Bishop of the Marines. An old man who’d spent many
years in the service, but had only reached so far in his career. With his bald
head, pursed lips and cold brown eyes, Mariemaia knew she would have to choose
her words very carefully. He looked to be a man of short patience.
In the third chair Judge
Michael Dupuis sat. A fairly young man to be sitting on the bench at his young
age, but with pepper brown hair swept up neatly upon his head and tolerant
hazel eyes, it was no wonder he had kept his position this long. Her strong
intellect should impress him greatly.
The fourth chair was held by
Lady Nikita Dorlian-Walters. She was the youngest women to ever be Operator of
Preventers First Line of Defense, and second cousin to Vice-Minister Relena
Dorlian. She was an all around intelligent young woman of strawberry blond
curls, cornflower blue eyes, and sarcastic wit. Mariemaia knew it would be easy
to win her over; since they both shared a hidden disdain for Miss Relena, and
stupid minded people.
In the final chair sat a
Representative for Quarte R. Winner. Held responsible for all legal issues on
Earth, this old gentleman, Lord Seymour Hughes, with his silver white hair and
keen grey eyes, helped Mr. Winner lead the largest space business conglomerate
for all the major colonies of outer space. Mariemaia was unsure of how he would
vote... Maybe if she played on his concern for his young master; implied that
it could have easily been Quarte that had gone missing with the way Une treated
her agents… yes, just maybe she could receive an unanimous vote.
All five of them made up the
World’s Leading Enforcement of Common Wealth Law, also known as Global
Headquarters
“Now that we are all
present I would like to get a better understanding of this case.” Judge Dupuis
spoke, stapling his fingers together on top of the files Mariemaia had sent to
him this morning.
“-A Preventer agent” – he
opened the file to glance down at the profile – “Chang Wufei, has been missing
for at least six months, according to you” –he peered up at her- “And, you,
young lady, would like us to place out a Universal All Points Bulletin, on your
request.”
“Yes,” Mariemaia uttered.
“Under what circumstances
should we agree to such a request?” Lady Walters asked, idly studying her pearl
pink nails.
“Chang Wufei is the only
person… I consider family” she replied; waiting causally to make sure all eyes
were on her before continuing. “He is a brother to me in every sense of the
word; and in his absence I fear for his well-being. Eight months ago on this
very day I went to go visit him, and found nothing but blood on his office floor.
When I asked his fellow co-workers if they had seen him recently, they all
replied no. When I asked Commander Une if she knew where he was, she would only
say that he is on a classified mission-“
“So he is currently engaged
on a mission?” Lady Grey asked; her green eyes sympathetic.
“Yes”, Mariemaia wavered.
“But I am terrified that he could be seriously hurt. There has been no word
from him at all in over eight months. I’ve asked around. No one is sure how long
he has been out in the field. There has been no word from him whatsoever; so I
asked if it was possible to send him a transmission, but was profusely denied.
Supposedly the mission is so high level, whatever it is, to risk that kind of
contact, but yet he was the only one that was sent out...”
Just then, the main door
opened, emitting one very frustrated Lady Une, and one very stone faced Sally
Poe. Mariemaia froze in her spot. She had hoped that they would be stuck in
meetings all morning long. Her hands curled into fists at her side.
“Mariemaia, what are you
doing here? You are supposed to be in class, young lady,” Une scorned.
“Ah, Commander Une, Special
Agent Poe, I am glad to see that you could join us for this hearing.” Admiral
Bishop spoke, sitting up in his chair. “Our little ‘Queen’ was just
entertaining us with her childish anecdotes.”
No wonder he had looked so
relaxed before. Mariemaia clicked her tongue inside her mouth. Matters had just
gotten ten times worse. But she would allow none of it to show on her face. She
straightened her back and placed on her most regal mask.
“I’m bringing Wufei home,”
Mariemaia stated to Une’s previous question.
Une stood beside her,
scowling so heavily small wrinkles began to show around her mouth. “Agent Chang
is currently on a mission.”
“There has been no word from
him in over eight months,” she reiterated.
“He is currently on a
mission, Mariemaia, and none of it is your business!”
“It is my business. You
obviously don’t care about the well-being of your agents!” she snapped back.
“That is enough,” Judge
Dupuis commanded. “Obviously there is more to this than what I expected; and we
would like any information you two can offer us about this matter. This young
lady has serious concerns, and considering the time span in which he has been
‘missing’ I believe that some of those concerns may be valid.” He paused for a
few moments, waiting patiently for his words to sink in. “Agent Poe, you are
his partner; is it typical of Agent Chang to not communicate like this?”
“Yes”, Poe muttered while
rolling her eyes and crossing her arms. “It is not unusual to go long periods
of time without getting an update from him. He is very capable of the work that
he takes on, and if he deems it
necessary to delay contact to ensure a successful mission, then that is exactly
what he normally does.”
“Very courageous of him,
but isn’t that against Preventer’s Protocol?” Lady Walters leaned forward, lips
pursing.
“If it ensures that an Agent
returns safely then it is allowed.” Une returned sharply.
“It is against protocol. How
are you to know if said agent is not injured or in need of assistance like
Mariemaia suggested?” Walters crossed, her eyes narrowing.
“Agent Chang is not in
trouble” – Une repeated.
“He’s been gone for eight
months and you don’t even know where he is. And did you forget that there was
even blood on his office floor!” Mariemaia interrupted disgustedly.
“His previous injury did not
hinder him for his current mission, and I know exactly where my agent is. You
have no say in this, and you also had no right going behind my back with
something so completely ridiculous and such an utter waste of time!”
“You mean to say that he was
cleared for his current mission with an unhealed injury?” Grey shifted forward,
green eyes intense.
“Please, the boy is a
seasoned fighter; some small flesh wound is nothing to fret about in your old
age, Krystal.” Bishop muttered, easing his wary body back into his chair. It
was obvious now to Mariemaia… why he had gotten nowhere in his career. He was
just a useless pile of mass; too lazy to do anything right, but always meddling
in things completely out of his puny scope of range.
“He is forced to do it all
the time.” She stepped forward, arm slashing through the air like an invisible
sword. Now if only she could cut down the idiot in front of her and beside her.
“Oh dear Lord. Agent Chang
is not forced to do anything. He chooses his missions. He chooses his team. He
chooses when to move, when to return. He is capable of whatever mission that is
given to him and accomplishes everything with minimal casualties’ and
interference -”
“That is also against
protocol, Commander Une! Are you that
short of staff?” Walters questioned, fingers flexing loosely in a tight fist.
“It is not a matter of being
short of staff. Agent Chang’s expertise is very valuable to the main branch. If
he is capable of receiving missions and is cleared from medical; then I choose
to send him in rather than to pull out an entire team only to handle something
he is capable of doing in a shorter amount of time and with more efficiency.”
“It’s not about what you
prefer, Commander. It is what protocol law states. I believed you had more
common sense than that,” Krystal uttered in disappointment.
“Certain missions require
the finesse of a seasoned agent over that of a team.”
“Is that why you always
allow him to buoy from one mission and into the next with just an hour’s time frame
to check in with Medical?” Mariemaia stated coolly. Now that it was obvious
that things were going her way, she could take a deep breath and calm down some.
“Buoy?” Judge Dupuis asked,
avidly watching everyone’s reactions.
Une clicked her mouth in
distaste, barely restraining from the urge to roll her eyes.
“It is sometimes necessary
for an agent to move from one mission into the next without backup and only a
limited amount of information at his disposal. It is only done when the current
mission is completed at 98% and that Agent’s talents are necessary for the
upcoming mission.”
“Commander Une, you are
treading on very dangerous grounds; grounds at the moment that I cannot ignore.
Not only is that irresponsible, but foolish. Do you know the publicity scandal
that would occur if this type of information ever got out?” Walters’s entire
frame visibly shook, from which particular emotion Mariemaia could not tell,
but it was enough to know that she had won. And all that was left to do was to
watch Une make an ass out of herself.
“You are not privy to the
inner workings of the main branch, Nikita. Do not begin to tell me how to
accomplish the job that was given to me, clearly understanding that without me,
Preventers would have fallen apart at the seams years ago. My agents are
willing and capable, and if I am skilled enough to maintain this current bout
of peace for so long, then you have no reason to question my methods.”
“That is exactly why we must
question them. It looks like power has gone to your head again, Une. In three
weeks time we will meet again to discuss exactly what methods you should be
using and how they are to be used properly.” Judge Dupuis frowned, hazel eyes
hardened to his verdict. “Mariemaia, your request has been granted. Your APB
will be issued at 14 hundred hours across G.E. and SHQ; it will also be encoded
for the sake of the Agent’s safety. I pray Chang Wufei is found speedily.”
Mariemaia smiled brilliantly
as his gavel rang inside the courtroom walls. It sang of justice and her heart
swelled. Wufei would be very proud of her. Now all she had to do now was
survive Une’s vicious form of punishment. And with the wrinkles visibly showing
around her eyes and the rage spewing from its depth, it would be a vicious.
Still, her brother would be
coming home soon. Mariemaia was on cloud nine.
