Kakarot was surprised at Vegeta’s vulgerness towards the same people he’s been around for years. Not to mention the desperation to get out of that room and his struggles weren’t helping. Kakarot watched the prince for a moment as he tried getting out of his bindings, which were only rubbing his skin raw and burning them more from the silver. “Vegeta! Calm down. You’re only making it worse for yourself.” He finally decided to intervene. This was getting ridiculous.
Vegeta sneered at him. “It’s your funeral! I was only thinking of you, since I don’t want to wake up a few days later to find the remains of a child in front of me.”
Kakarot tensed at that, but tried not to let it get to him. “You won’t eat me. I know it.”
Vegeta sat back and swallowed hard as if trying to get rid of the craving inside him. “What makes you so sure?” He asked in uncertainty while he rubbed his burning wrists and shifted to relieve his ankles and neck.
Kakarot stared at him calmly. “Because, I am the prince of my kind. You’ll recognize me as one of your own and restrain yourself.”
Vegeta sneered. “Ha! My kind!” He spat out. After a moment, he raised a brow in curiosity. “Has that happened before?”
Kakarot ignored his insult and nodded. “Newborns don’t transform until their fifth year. I assume it’s similar to what you’re going through. When they transform, they don’t recognize anyone or anything around them. However, when they get older, the more control they have and they become proficient warriors. They do that by the sights and smells of others of their kind.”
“Hn.” Vegeta wasn’t concentrating much on what was going on. The restraints were driving him insane and the hunger wasn’t helping. In the middle of rubbing his neck and wrists in a nervous gesture, he couldn’t help but pick up on a peculiar smell. It was something he hasn’t smelled before, but at the same time, it was familiar. He turned his head slightly towards Kakarot and sniffed. It was sweet and woodsy. It was like smelling nature or fruit. It smelled heavenly. He leaned his head a bit closer to get a better whiff then heard a grumbling sound. At first he thought it was his stomach growling, but then he realized it was him.
Kakarot eyed him in a bit of alarm and leaned back. The other prince was a few feet away from him, but still, he didn’t like the way he was looking at him. “Vegeta, get a hold of yourself.”
As soon as the boy spoke, Vegeta snapped out of his hunger craze and immediately concentrated on his bindings. He yanked on them and tried breaking them or bending them, only for them to groan under his strength. Once again, the silver wins. He sighed in frustration and started rocking back and forth. Oh God he couldn’t do this. The hunger…it was too much. He had to eat something. He had to! He glanced at the boy again and looked away just as quickly. No…not him. Don’t do it. Not him. He shook his head slightly while holding it and closed his eyes. “Vegeta? Vegeta. Vegeta! Don’t think about it! Keep your mind off of it! Concentrate on something else!” Kakarot tried reasoning with the other, but it didn’t seem to be working.
Suddenly, a head-splitting scream pierced through the tense atmosphere and Vegeta threw himself back on the ground and went into some sort of convulsion. He tried gripping whatever he could at the ground as he arched and moaned out in pain. Kakarot watched him in fear. He’s seen children transform many times, but he’s never seen anyone be in pain from it. Screams and moans of agony filled the dungeon as Vegeta continued to arch. At first, it happened every so often, then it gradually became more frequent. For a while, it seemed like nothing was happening, only that the half breed was in pain, but when Kakarot looked closer, he could tell slight shifts happening in the other’s torso. He was transforming alright, but it was slow…torturous.
The young prince has never seen that before. Was this another side effect for being a half breed? The boy suddenly felt pity for the older prince and tried to think of a way to help him. However, it was extremely hard to concentrate when Vegeta suddenly coughed up blood, causing his screams to be drowned out. Kakarot scooted back as far as he could from the writhing figure on the floor, a frightened expression on his innocent face. He’s never seen nor heard of anything like this…and the blood…was he dying? The boy gasped when Vegeta suddenly arched at an impossible angle, briefly wondering if he was going to break his spine. “Vegeta.” Kakarot whispered with great worry. What could he do? How could he help him?
The half breed thrashed his head from side to side as the slow torture continued. After a moment, his back suddenly hit the ground as he exhaled a sob. He looked to the frightened boy next to him and whimpered, “Plea-se…make…i-it…st-op.” Tears fell from his eyes and the screams continued. Kakarot watched helplessly as he saw the other’s form shift again. His legs began to take on a wolf’s legs, his claws began to grow, his eyes were becoming larger, and his fangs became more pronounced. Vegeta coughed up more blood as it was felt and visible that his skeletal structure was changing. “Ugh, God!” The half breed prince panted and writhed all over the concrete floor as the silver chains thrashed along with him.
Kakarot squeezed his eyes shut and covered his ears to escape the scene before him. He was sure to be traumatized by the sight. He shook his head left to right in helplessness. He didn’t know what to do. He was afraid that the transformation would kill the other at this rate. Now think, think! What would his father do? What has he told him that would help him in a situation like this? It was then that Kakarot remembered of the stories that he was told of their kind growing up. It was the moon. Vegeta needed the moon to teach him how it’s done. But how’s he going to get him outside? Kakarot opened his eyes and uncovered his ears to the horrid scene in front of him. He’ll just have to join him.
With his goal in mind, Kakarot concentrated on the animal inside him. The itching, gnawing feeling that he got whenever the moon was out. Sure it was a constant feeling, he can transform whenever he wanted, but it was stronger at night. In a matter of seconds, the lithe pale boy turned into a giant wolf with mostly pitch black hair and dark brown around his eyes and legs, destroying his borrowed pants in the process. His shining dark eyes concentrated on the thrashing creature below then suddenly pulled on his binds. The chains creaked and groaned under his strength but didn’t give in. The wolf rested a moment then tried again with all his might. Again the chains made weak noises, signifying that they were giving. Kakarot didn’t relent as he kept pulling, pushing the metal to its max. Gradually, the chains’ links stretched beyond their capacity and pulled apart, releasing him. Kakarot stumbled forward when the chains suddenly let him go of their grasp then looked down at himself in relief and silently congratulated himself before going back to the task at hand. He turned his attention to the thick silver chains binding the transforming prince and let out a puff of air. This was going to be a challenge.
Kakarot leaned forward on his paws and growled at Vegeta to be still. Vegeta barely caught the growl, caught up in his own pain to hear it, before stopping as much movement as possible, which wasn’t much. Kakarot didn’t wait another moment before he pounced on the chains and tried ripping them apart with his teeth. He pulled and yanked with all his might, but after a little bit, his teeth began to hurt from the effort. The big wolf panted a moment then assessed his opponent before transforming back into his human form. The naked boy knelt down beside the thrashing form and tried reasoning with him. “Vegeta, in order for me to free you, I need you to help me. When I pull, you pull with me. Got it?” He waited for some indignation that the other understood him. When all he got were cries of pain in return he repeated his words. “Vegeta, listen to me.” He turned the other’s head to look at him. “I need you to help me. Pull on the chains when I pull. You got it? I can’t do it alone.” Tears of agony continued to trail down Vegeta’s face until he finally nodded. Kakarot let out a breath of relief. “Good. Now try and fight through the pain. Concentrate.” He ordered before transforming back into his wolf form and wasted no time in pulling on Vegeta’s restraints.
When Vegeta saw that Kakarot was pulling on a silver chain with his teeth, he pulled his arm along with him with all his might. He cried out at the effort and the pain he was still enduring until finally the chain gave way. Kakarot made a snort of approval before making his way to the other restraints and giving them the same treatment along with Vegeta helping him. When Vegeta was finally free, he curled up on his side and hugged himself, as if trying to hold it all in. Kakarot, still in his wolf form, looked behind him to see a dark tunnel that lead to…who knows where. A gentle sniff in that direction told him it was an exit. Kakarot turned his attention to the shivering form curled up on the floor then went over and scooped him up with his teeth. He held the other prince’s torso gently, careful not to puncture him with his sharp teeth before making his way deeper into the dungeon. His eyes easily adjusted to the darkness as he followed his nose towards moisture and the chorus of crickets and frogs. He stopped when he suddenly came to a dead end, an end where a shelter door with a lock blocked his way. Without hesitation, he burst through the door, bringing him to the edge of the woods and out of the castle’s view. He quickly carried the half breed into the middle of the woods until he thought it was safe for him to put the other down.
When he did, Vegeta seemed to exhale a sigh of relief as he was laid on the cool ground and bathed in moonlight. One look at the bright orb in the sky and Vegeta shielded himself from it, as if protecting himself. All too suddenly, he began screaming again and again held himself while keeping himself quiet. Kakarot looked up at the moon then back down to the prince and cocked his head to the side before returning to his human form again. Kakarot knelt down beside him and tried turning him on his back, Vegeta resisted his touch and flinched away from him. However, Kakarot tried again, but a little more forcefully. He grabbed Vegeta’s arm and forced him on his back so he may stare directly at the pale glow of the moon. “Don’t fight it Vegeta! Accept it! Accept that it’s a part of who you are and it will be easier! Please trust me!” He shouted through Vegeta’s persistent cries of denial.
When Kakarot finally forced Vegeta down, the half breed had no choice but to look up and when he did, the burning inside him became stronger and the ache of hunger did as well. He cried/sobbed out his pain as his transformation moved along a little faster. In just a matter of minutes, he turned into a four-legged wolf cub like Kakarot, except his fur was a dark auburn all over. Kakarot watched the transformation in fascination before letting the other go and staring at him in awe. He was a cub too…just like him. Kakarot scoffed lightly. Of course he was a cub. He didn’t look close to fifty. He watched the other cub quietly, who panted and whimpered at every exhale he took. The pain subsided along with the exhaustion until there was nothing left but the hunger. With this instinct in mind, the cub slowly stood on shaky legs, since he wasn’t used to walking around in this form. He took a few steps forward and staggered some, but soon regained his balance and was walking around in no time. Kakarot watched Vegeta trot around for a little bit before he took off into the woods. Kakarot suddenly stood and ran after the vanishing form. “Vegeta wait!” He looked around in uncertainty, not at all knowing where he was. Not only that, but he had to keep up with the other wolf so he wouldn’t devour anyone.

“Sire! The prince…and the boy…they’re gone!” A servant rushed into his king’s quarters, clearly out of breath.
King Vegeta turned to the servant in shock. “What do you mean they’re gone?”
The servant waved his arms wildly in panic. “The silver…the chains! It looks like someone pried them apart! They escaped!” The man tried finding words for the pressing situation.
A moment of hesitation and panic went through the king before a plan started forming in his mind. “Summon every able bodied man in the castle and capture them!”
“But sire, it’s a full moon. All the wolves are out tonight. We wouldn’t make it back alive.” The servant pointed out in worry.
“Neither would the civilians in the area if we don’t catch them soon! If anything they could join forces with the others and attack tonight! We must act!” The king barked.
The servant was silent for a moment before bowing in understanding. “Yes, your majesty.”
The king went to retrieve his sword as the servant went to leave. “Oh and, they don’t have to be brought back alive. Kill them…if you must.” The king ended in a dark tone.
A shiver went through the servant’s thin frame. “Yes…your highness.”

Bardock sat in his quarters alone in the dark. Attempting and failing to come up with an idea to rescue his son. If he did it now, during the full moon, the half breed would be there and be transformed. He’s more than likely stronger when he is, therefore making this even harder than it should be. Perhaps he should take a handful of his warriors with him, just to be sure. Ah but damn. What if one of them screws up and bites another human? Then they’d have another half breed on their hands…or several. He just couldn’t risk it. One half breed was challenging enough. He leaned back in his chair, resting his head on the back and sighed. What could he do? They could be torturing his son right now or worse…they probably killed him off days ago and here he is, still trying to figure out how to rescue him! His fist met a mahogany desk in his anger and helplessness before resting his head in his hands and running them through his mane. Something has to be done…tonight!
Just when Bardock thought he was going to go insane from his frustration, he heard a series of howls that came from one wolf. He stopped breathing for a moment to listen to them and turned his head towards the window. He stared at the moonlit trees as it all translated in his head. An unknown intruder? How is that possible? He stood from his seat and exited his quarters. He soon ran into his guards and immediately began barking questions. “What’s all this about?! Who’s out there?!”
Three guards surrounded their leader as he continued to strut down the hall towards the entrance. “We don’t know sire. Their scent couldn’t be identified.” One explained next to him.
Another spoke up on his other side. “Perhaps it’s a new wolf?”
“Don’t you think we would know if it was a new one? We keep track of things like that!” Another barked from behind.
Bardock sneered, wanting to retort to that last statement, but let it go for now. “What is it? Adult or cub?” He asked no one in particular.
“Cub sire. It’s been reported that he’s been seen in the village to the north. He’s attacking our food source.” One of the guards replied.
Bardock stopped as soon as he heard those words. His heart picked up speed at the possibility. “Was it alone?”
“He sire and yes. However-“ The guard paused a moment, not sure if he should tell what he knows.
Bardock looked at him. “However?”
The guard gave him a puzzled look. “However, there is a familiar scent that we picked up on.”
Another guard decided to butt in and help fill in the information. “We think it’s…Kakarot, your highness.”
Bardock sneered at the guard that last spoke. “Why didn’t you say that earlier?!” His fists clenched, ready to pulverize someone.
The guard took a step back with his hands held up in surrender. “B-Because, sire, we’re not sure.”
“Yes. We didn’t want to…give you information that could be false.” Another quickly explained.
Before Bardock could respond, another series of howls were heard, but by more than one wolf. All of them stood still as they listened. Bardock suddenly gasped when the first part was heard, but ignored the rest of it as he quickly made his way out of his palace, pushing his guards out of the way and whispered in hope. “Kakarot.”

“Vegeta wait! Stop! Come back!” Kakarot quickly followed the other cub to a village, which was occupied by hundreds of humans. Several were still out and about but not many, considering that they all knew the dangers in being out in a full moon.
Vegeta wasted no time in spotting the nearest human and going for them. People screamed and ran for their lives as they tried escaping the giant wolf. “Wolf! Wolf!” Several humans shouted as a sort of alarm broke out amongst the village. People ran for their weapons so they may protect themselves against the beast.
When Kakarot finally caught up to the half breed, he was in time to see the cub tearing into a house that held a crying baby and a panicked mother. “Vegeta, no! Please! Don’t hurt them!” He cried, waving his arms and approaching the wolf in alarm. He stopped short once he saw the blood dripping from the wolf’s chin. “No…” He whispered in horror. He’s already eaten someone. How many has he killed before he arrived? Sure he could’ve transformed to keep up with the other, but then he wouldn’t be able to talk some sense into him. Not to mention it wouldn’t help his situation if people saw a second wolf enter their village.
In the midst of digging, Vegeta stopped only to sneer and growl at Kakarot, who stood in shock. The cub sniffed the air, as if picking up a tasty scent before abandoning his current task and stalking towards Kakarot. The young wolf tensed as Vegeta approached and took a few steps back. Vegeta licked the blood around his mouth before going back to his snarling. Kakarot gulped loudly. “V-Vegeta…it’s me…K-Kakarot.” He tried reasoning with the other, who ignored his words.
Suddenly, Vegeta crouched low then pounced. Kakarot had little time to react before his back hit the ground. He grunted at the impact as blackness danced around his vision from his head hitting the graveled road. He shook his head to clear it only to look up and see a very hungry wolf growling down at him. He choked back a shout when a heavy paw pushed against his ribcage, causing him to lose his breath. Just when those jaws of death were about to take off Kakarot’s head, a heavy body suddenly ran into the cub above, causing him to fly into a house nearby. The two legged wolf stood above Kakarot in a protective stance and growled and roared at the cub that was thrown. Kakarot was about to question the creature when it leaned down to sniff him all along his body, checking to see if there were any serious injuries. When the wolf seemed to be satisfied, it suddenly went back to its growling and charged the cub that was gradually pulling itself out of debris.
“Wait! Please! Don’t hurt him!” Kakarot shouted towards his savior. However, his words fell on ignorant ears as the wolf took the cub’s snout in its claws and swung him around, hitting every obstacle it could. He let go of it so it could go flying into another building. The two legged wolf quickly ran after it so it may pummel it into the ground. “No…” Kakarot cried weakly as he watched his savior slam its claws into the cub below. “S-Stop…please…” Tears formed and fell down pale cheeks. If the wolf cared to save him, then why wouldn’t it listen to him? Wait…could it be? Kakarot quickly stood, then staggered slightly before running towards the one-sided fight. “Radditz! Brother! Please stop! He doesn’t know any better! He can’t control himself!” He panted at his exertion and waited for the other to acknowledge him and maybe do what he said.
The wolf suddenly stopped pummeling the other then grabbed the cub’s head and squeezed. The cub whimpered and whined at the feeling of his skull being crushed. Kakarot ran forward in a panic and grabbed at his brother’s arm. “Radditz, please! Don’t kill him! I beg you! Stop! He’s harmless now a-and I’m fine! Please let him go!” His brother paused, as if making a decision. Tears continued to fall when Kakarot saw how bloody the half breed prince was. His fur was all matted and stained with the color red. Oh no…no please don’t be…”Brother…please….”
The wolf looked into the younger’s eyes before finally letting the cub go. He turned to the pale boy and gradually transformed back into his human form. Kakarot gasped when he did. “F-Father?!” He took a step back in surprise. He didn’t think his father would go through so much trouble to save him.
“Kakarot.” Bardock said in relief as he moved forward to hug his son. Kakarot didn’t return the embrace when he saw that Vegeta wasn’t moving. Bardock pulled back to look at his youngest up and down more closely. “Are you alright? Did he hurt you? And the humans…what did they do to you? They didn’t hurt you, did they? Tell me everything.” He stroked his son’s face and hair in a comforting gesture to calm him, however, it wasn’t working.
“F-Father…why…why didn’t you listen to me? Look at what you did. He’s…he’s really hurt.” Kakarot’s horrified gaze didn’t leave the bloody prince before him.
Bardock glanced back at his victim nonchalantly then back to his son. “He was going to kill you. You know that right? I had to stop him.”
“That’s all you had to do!” Kakarot suddenly screamed at him. “Why did you feel the need to hit him until he couldn’t move and then some? He was already harmless after you got him off of me! Besides, I didn’t need your help. I didn’t ask for it!” Tears of anger and hurt fell down Kakarot’s face. “I…I told him…I would help him…not kill him.” His shoulders shook in his anguish.
Bardock crossed his arms, suddenly wondering why his son cared for the half breed. “I’d say we did both. After all, I put him out of his misery.” He smirked slightly, although he tried to hide it.
Kakarot looked up in time to see the smirk then suddenly became horrified. “I-It was you…wasn’t it? You…did you turn him?”
Bardock frowned. “Of course I didn’t. Honestly, I don’t know who turned him and I don’t really care. All I know is, is that he’s a threat that needs to be stopped.”
Suddenly, people from the village came out to see the damage, along with their weapons. Some started murmuring while others asked questions. “What happened?” “Who is that?” “Is it dead?” However, what started in confusion suddenly turned to panic. “Ahhhhh! It’s Bardock! The king of the beasts!” “Oh, God! He’s come to kill us all!” “Did he just murder his own kind?!” “It’s a cub too!” “Quickly! Finish him before he finishes us!” “Surely his army of beasts are soon to come!” All the questions and words of panic came together in Kakarot’s head.
“It…it is you. Y-You’re the one…no…everyone…is killing…” He trailed off, still in denial in what he was hearing. Everyone was afraid of them. Not because they don’t accept who they are, but because they are food to them. His father and his kind…have been treating their fellow humans like livestock. He looked to the fallen half breed before him. He should’ve listened to Vegeta.
Bardock suddenly started to panic when he realized his son was piecing it together. “No son. Don’t listen to them. Remember what I told you. We mean nothing to them because of what we are! You know that right?” Bardock took a hold of his son’s arms in an attempt to make him believe his words.
Kakarot looked into his father’s eyes and saw the panic and determination there. Just who’s eyes was he looking into? Who’s voice was he listening to? If his father was really telling the truth about everything he told him, then he wouldn’t be trying so hard to get him to believe him. Even if he wasn’t, the humans’ cries of panic towards the sight of his father were enough to convince him. Kakarot brushed off his father’s hold and pushed away from him. “You’re…you’re not who I thought you were.”
Bardock suddenly looked hurt, like someone just told him that someone close to him died. “No…no don’t listen to them!” He shouted at everyone around him in an attempt to keep them quiet. Kakarot backed away from his father’s sudden outburst in slight fear. “You walking bags of meat! You will be feasted upon by my kind tonight! Not one soul will be saved!” He threatened then suddenly transformed back into his wolf form and roared at them.
The humans screamed and fled from the beast. Some stood their ground and threw pitchforks at him and tried to light him on fire. Bardock merely batted them away and sprinted after them. Kakarot watched his father in shock. He lied…everything he said was a lie…and what about his brother? Did he know this too? No…he must have. He lied to him too. The one person that he trusted and loved…had betrayed him. Kakarot clenched his fists while he fought his inner turmoil. His life is a lie and so is everything around him. His hurt gaze turned towards the unconscious half breed. Vegeta tried to tell him…even though it hurt and he didn’t want to listen…he didn’t think it was true…but it was. His father really did turn him into what he is. Why? Why would his father do such a thing to a child? The poor thing didn’t even get a choice. He was attacked and turned against his will and what’s more, he has to live through the consequences. Hunting his kind was probably the only thing that made it any better…to get some sort of revenge for what was done to him. Tears fell from unblinking eyes before they narrowed. No more.
Bardock returned to where he left his son, the humans outnumbering him with their swords and fire, only to come to a destroyed home with no one in it or around it. He looked around and sniffed the air and perked his ears up, in case his son was taken. However, when he looked again, he realized the half breed cub was gone.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Kakarot sprinted as fast as he could to nowhere in particular in his wolf form. He panted at the extra weight on his back that held the unconscious prince. He couldn’t leave him there. He knew if he did, his father would finish the job. On his way out of the territory he knew so well, he came across a line of lights that threaded themselves through the woods. He suddenly stopped to listen and see what they were; only to find out it was a line of men carrying torches through the darkness. He recognized the man leading them to be the king, Vegeta’s father, who signaled his men to halt so he may speak. “Men, I believe that our search will be much faster if we split up. Break off into three teams and meet back at the palace. Remember, bring back the prince…dead or alive. We cannot have him wreaking havoc on a night of the full moon. If we do not find him before dawn, then he will transform back into his human form. And if you come across the prince of beasts, kill him on sight.”
The last order sent an icy chill into Kakarot’s heart, which made it feel like it broke all the more. No one cared for him…or Vegeta from the sounds of it. He was on his way to bring the prince home only to run into that. From what he could tell and has seen for himself, Vegeta’s own men fear him for what he is and therefore would either kill him to protect themselves or keep him locked up. And seeing how the prince’s transformation goes, he wouldn’t be able to survive it much longer if they do keep him locked up, which appears to be the case. Kakarot whimpered slightly in sadness then continued towards an unknown destination.
Hmm…well, that could’ve went better, I suppose, but that’s what I came up with so…there. So? Likey or no likey? Let me know and I’ll see what I can do.
