A/N: I’m so sorry for the lateness my lovelies. :/ My gallbladder decided to give me trouble so I decided to get rid of it. I’m still healing, slowly but surely. Since I have some time off from work I thought I’d finally get on the computer to see what all’s been going on. I’m so excited to see how many of you have taken a liking to this story and the others I have written. ^^ I hope I continue to please and continue to update at a reasonable time.
‘thoughts’
When sleep didn’t come, he decided to get up. ‘I wonder if I can just…roam? I mean, it’s not exactly my home, but then again I’m not a prisoner here.’ He remembered how Kakarot insisted him to stay. ‘Or am I?’ He looked at the dark ceiling, pondering if he should wake Kakarot up or lay in bed for the rest of the night. ‘Would he be angry that I woke him up just to talk to him? Or would he understand? After all, I did go through a traumatic experience. I’m sure he wouldn’t mind. I mean, it’s his fault I’m here anyways. So, he’ll just have to deal with me…and he did say if I needed anything, I could come and wake him up, basically.’ He paused in his thoughts. ‘I’ll talk to him if he’s awake. If he’s asleep, I’ll go back to bed.’
After Vegeta made up his mind, he got out of bed and headed out of the room. He looked down the hall that led to the stairs. He waited for his eyes to adjust to the dark, then proceeded toward his destination. He didn’t bother turning on the lights, not wanting to bring attention to his presence or wake anyone up. Once he got to the foot of the stairs, Rogue decided to show himself and scare the crap out of Vegeta. “Ugh! Damn dog! You scared the hell out of me!” He whispered.
He bent over and petted the wolf’s thick fur and Rogue wagged his tail at the treatment. “I’m sorry, I can’t play with you at the moment…unless you want to listen to me talk your cute fuzzy ears off.” Rogue just perked said ears up and tilted his head at his voice as Vegeta chuckled. “I guess you wouldn’t mind that so much, would you?” He scratched the fuzzy ears, then stood. “Sorry. I’m looking for someone that’ll talk back, maybe some other time.” He looked up the flight of stairs then quietly headed up them, Rogue followed.
Vegeta didn’t protest as the dog jogged past him, like he was escorting him to his destination. Vegeta smiled at the thought, then focused on the destination at hand. He stopped once he came to the end of the hall. ‘Okay, now which door was it?’ He slowly spun in his place, trying to remember where the beautiful male slept. Rogue went over to a door that was slightly ajar and pushed his nose against it, opening it further. The light that was in the room poured into the hallway and revealed Kakarot sitting on his bed watching TV. Kakarot petted the dog and looked towards the doorway.
Vegeta blushed at his unexpected visit to the male’s bedroom. “Oh, hey Vegeta. Do you need something? Come on in.” He scooted over to make room on the bed.
He hesitantly walked in and turned his attention to the TV. Kakarot was watching some sort of animal show on the Discovery channel. ‘Interesting.’ “Actually, I-I was wondering…well, I came to see if…the truth is, I couldn’t…” He paused, trying to form his words. ‘Well, this is embarrassing.’
Kakarot smiled at him, then patted the spot next to him. “That’s alright. We can keep each other company for now.”
Vegeta smiled softly, then sat next to the man he’s been having feelings for. After silence waged on for a good five minutes, Vegeta finally got a sentence formed together. “I couldn’t sleep.” His hands played with the hem of the baggy shirt he was wearing and a worry expression came over his features.
Kakarot was about to reply, when he looked at Vegeta’s face then pieced it together. “Oh. Did you…want to talk about it?” A worried expression came upon his features. Either he was afraid he would have another breakdown or he has come to terms with it and simply wanted to talk.
Vegeta shook his head. “I’ve basically told you all that happened. You were there for the rest. I just…wanted some company. I don’t really…want to be alone right now.” He ended quietly.
Kakarot placed a hand on his shoulder. “Hey, if you’re worried about those guys coming after you again, you don’t have to worry about them. I’m pretty sure they’re still unconscious after what I did to them.” He said this almost proudly.
Vegeta turned to him. “Speaking of that, how did you do it? I’ve never seen anyone possess so much strength. I guess these muscles aren’t just for show, huh?” He reached up and gently squeezed Kakarot’s bicep a few times to prove his point.
Kakarot smiled and flexed his arm. “Of course not. I do know how to use these, you know. Careful though. I wouldn’t want you getting hurt by doing that.” He gently grabbed Vegeta’s hand and held it away from his bicep as he chuckled.
Vegeta chuckled along with him at the joke. “Hn. You’re more cocky than I thought.”
“Yeah well, I try.” An awkward silence suddenly took over the room, except for the noise of the TV. Their hands still intertwined, but neither noticed, until a moment later. They blushed and quickly pulled their hands apart. Kakarot looked at the TV, then clasped his hands together and rested them on his lap.
Vegeta let a disappointed look cross over his features at the gesture, then turned his attention to the TV as well. He was just in time to see a pack of wolves attack a herd of deer and devoured one of them. His face scrunched in disgust, then glanced at Kakarot, who looked at the display in awe. “Was there nothing else on?” He couldn’t help but ask.
Kakarot turned his attention toward the lithe male with confusion. “Oh, I don’t know. I just find this kind of thing interesting. It’s amazing what animals do to survive. Did you want to watch something else? You can turn it if you want.” He handed the remote to him.
Vegeta stared at the remote and shook his head. “Oh, no. That’s alright. It’s just a little odd to see a teenager watch the Discovery channel…but if it’s something you’re interested in, then don’t mind me.” He looked back at the screen.
Kakarot gave him a concerned expression, not really sure if he meant it as a good or bad thing. He suddenly felt self-conscious about what he was watching, but didn’t change the channel. Instead, he tried striking up another conversation. “So…is it just you and your dad that live here?”
Vegeta tensed at the mention of his father, not wanting to be reminded of what he hasn’t been home to in a while. “Uh, yeah.”
Kakarot smiled. Thinking that it was wonderful he wasn’t the only one that lived with his father. “What does he do?”
‘Please don’t ask too many questions.’ “He’s a…” ‘Should I lie?’ He looked into those kind orbs that stared back at him with a glint of caring in them. Vegeta felt his heart melt at the look. “He’s a bartender.” He blurted. ‘Damn. I hope he doesn’t jump to conclusions.’ He turned his head away bashfully, wondering what kind of scenarios are going through the lovely male’s head.
Said lovely male grinned ecstatically. “Really? That must be fun! I hear that’s a good paying job.”
Vegeta stared at him in mute shock. “Oh, uh…it is a good paying job. If you’re a pro at it, that is.”
Kakarot nodded then his expression became concerned, like he wasn’t sure if he should ask this next question. “If you don’t mind me asking, how come your mother isn’t with you?” Vegeta’s features turned sorrowful. “Uh…you don’t have to answer if you don’t want to. I was just curious.” He put his hand behind his head in a nervous gesture.
Vegeta’s features lightened a little. “Oh, no. It’s okay. I’ve just…never talked about it with anyone before.” ‘Not even Broly asked me about my mother. In fact, we never talked about things like this. Hell, we hardly even talked.’ Kakarot’s nervousness passed and became a bit worried as he waited for the male to respond. “My mother…was in a car accident when I was ten. We were…on our way home when she picked me up from school.” He stared at a place on the floor as he got more into his story. Kakarot watched him intently, also getting into the story. “She always looked at my papers whenever she drove. I didn’t think anything of it, I was always excited whenever she looked at them. It made me happy when she was proud of my good grades, but…she wasn’t looking at the road at the right time and…we hit…oncoming traffic.” He paused for a moment and closed his eyes, the memory coming back to him. “When I woke, there was…blood…everywhere, even on me. It didn’t occur to me where it came from.” He shook his head. “It didn’t even occur to me that we were in an accident. I looked over at my mother to see if she was okay and what was going on, but she wasn’t moving.” Vegeta paused a moment, trying to hold back his emotions from the image, then opened his eyes. “I noticed that…there was a steel rod that protruded from her head…but it didn’t register to me that she was…dead. I tried waking her or to get her attention…anything to let me know that she was alright. But all I saw was blood dripping down her head and my paper in her slack hands…” Tears blurred his vision. ‘Shit. Not now.’ He closed them as he tried to will them away, but that only encouraged them to fall.
He flinched when a hand came to wipe away his tears and he opened his eyes. He stared at the sad male next to him, a look of shock crossing over his own features at the gesture. “I’m sorry, Vegeta. I know that probably doesn’t help, but if it makes you feel any better, my mom died too.”
Vegeta stared at him for a moment longer. “No, Kakarot. That doesn’t make me feel any better.” After a few moments of silence, Vegeta started laughing. Kakarot looked at him in shock at the outburst, but gradually, however uneasily, joined in too. They both laughed for a little while, then calmed.
“Well, you know…I was just thinking that…it would make you feel better knowing that you weren’t the only one who’s lost someone.” Kakarot’s smile became sad.
Vegeta’s smile turned sad as well. “Well, I appreciate the effort, but knowing that you lost your mother too, doesn’t really work.” Kakarot nodded. Vegeta studied him for a moment. “Your turn.” He put his hand on top of the kind teen’s next to him and smiled encouragingly.
Kakarot tensed, knowing that it was his turn to tell how his mother died. It was only fair… “Well…she was…murdered.” He cautiously looked at the smaller male for a reaction.
Vegeta’s hold on his hand tightened. “How did it happen?”
Kakarot hesitantly looked at him. “I don’t know. She died before I was born. She was still carrying me when she was attacked. But if you really want to know, my dad might be able to tell you something about what happened. He was there.”
Vegeta’s gasp was caught in his throat. “N-No. It’s not my place to ask something like that of your father…it sounds like something that should be left alone.”
Kakarot nodded. “It isn’t so bad though. I mean, you witnessed…” He cut off mid-sentence; not sure if he should continue with the selfish meaning behind it.
Vegeta sighed and went back to staring at the floor. “Yeah…but doesn’t it bother you? Not knowing what happened to her?” Vegeta knew it would bother him. He’d probably go so far as to hate his father to keep such a secret from him. Though, if the truth was that harmful to know, he was surprised his dad hadn’t lied to him about what happened to her. Who would tell their own son that his mother was murdered when they could’ve made up a more bearable way of her death?
Kakarot shook his head. “It’s something I try not to keep myself up at night for. Why should I? It’s not like I remember what happened. It’s like you said, it’s something that should be left alone.”
Concern came across Vegeta’s features once again. “I guess so.” His grip on the warm hand lessened, then the awkward silence, once again, ensued.
Vegeta decided to start another conversation as a thought occurred to him. “So, how did you know I was…being attacked?” He didn’t want to say what actually happened.
He was greeted with a shocked face as Kakarot tried to come up with an explanation. “Uh…well, I heard you scream.” He turned away and bit his bottom lip.
Vegeta’s brow rose. “Really? You heard a loud noise above all the other loud noises?” He asked with some sarcasm.
Kakarot removed his hand from underneath his to fidget with his other one in his lap. ‘I can’t say I was watching him all night. He’ll creep out.’ “Well, it was part of it. I also saw them chase you...last minute.” He tried to make it sound believable.
Vegeta still wasn’t buying it, but he smiled and accepted it anyway. “Well, however you found out, I’m glad you did.”
Kakarot turned back to him and smiled in return. For once, a comfortable silence ensued and they turned back to the television. The ‘wolves eating deer’ program was over as some sort of ocean program came on after it. They watched it for a while until Vegeta’s eyes became heavy. He leaned towards Kakarot’s way a few times before catching himself, then completely succumbed to sleep as he gently laid his head against the guy’s shoulder. Kakarot looked at the tired teen before slowly moving to the side and held his head to lay it down on the mattress. He then moved over to the side of the bed and pulled the covers down before picking up Vegeta and placing him beneath the covers. Instead of going to bed himself, he sat at the end of the bed and continued watching the ocean show until he too became tired. However, instead of sleeping beside the smaller male, he took a pillow and made himself comfortable on the floor.

Vegeta woke to the wonderful aroma of breakfast. He opened his eyes as he took in his surroundings. When he looked out the windows from his position, he knew immediately where he was…in his crush’s bed. He smiled softly and decided to take in the moment. He stretched, causing the sheets to slide down his body as he touched the headboard in the peak of his stretch. After stretching, he buried his hands underneath the pillows and nuzzled his face in the sheets more; taking in the lovely male’s scent. It was amazing. “You’re awake, just in time.” Vegeta jumped at the voice, then turned over quickly to face the source.
He smiled with a blush, “Morning.”
Kakarot smiled back, “Good morning. Breakfast is ready if you want to join us.”
Vegeta sat up more. “That sounds good.” He looked around himself as if he’d just noticed where he was. “Sorry I passed out in your bed.” He tried not to let a huge grin replace his tired features.
Kakarot waved it away. “Don’t worry about it.” His gentle smile turned into a smirk. “I figured it must’ve been pretty odd to sleep in a stranger’s house, but even more so to sleep in the stranger’s bed.” His smirk became a bit cocky as he waited for the other’s reaction.
Vegeta couldn’t help the color show on his face and smiled. “Not really. It was much more comfortable than sleeping by myself.” He tried not to cough embarrassingly while standing.
This time, it was Kakarot’s turn to blush and he coughed. “Actually, I slept…downstairs. I didn’t want to startle you when you woke up.” ’I actually slept on the floor next to the bed, but I won’t tell him that. He’ll probably think it’s odd to have a stranger sleep in the same room with him.’
Vegeta was surprised. “You did? I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to kick you out of your room. You could’ve woken me and then I could’ve slept in my own room.”
Kakarot waved it off again. “Oh, no, no. You were fine. As long as you were able to sleep. You needed the rest after…what you’ve been through.” He said the last part awkwardly and tried to quickly cover it up. “Well…I’ll let you get ready and I’ll meet you in the kitchen.” He was turning to leave before stopping. “You know you’re way, right?”
Vegeta thought for a moment. “Yes, I believe so. If not, I’ll call for you.” He smiled shyly.
Kakarot couldn’t help but return a smile. “Okay.” And with that, he headed downstairs.
Vegeta sighed as he covered his eyes with his hands for a moment; trying to get over his embarrassing moment before the handsome teen caught him awake, then stood and headed towards the bathroom that was connected to Kakarot’s bedroom. When he entered the tiled room, he paused to take it all in. He looked in the shower, not only to take in its luxurious design, but to see what kind of soap he used. He was expecting some sort of popular brand, but was surprised to see that it was a brand he’s never heard of before. He picked it up curiously and popped open the lid to smell it. It was similar to what the sheets smelled like. ‘So that’s where it came from.’ He closed the bottle and set it back down, then leaned against the frame of the shower as he imagined Kakarot bathing in this very spot. His expression became dreamy as the ‘show’ from a week ago appeared in his mind again. ‘I can’t believe I’m in the same room.’
After a few minutes, his delicious daydream faded as he decided to quickly get his business done and head downstairs. When he got to the bottom of the stairs, he looked around himself for something familiar. ‘Let’s see, since this is the living room, then the kitchen must be over…’ He looked to his right where a couple hallways led off to other rooms. ‘There.’ He recognized the curve of the hallway that led to the kitchen and went down it. When he entered the kitchen, Kakarot and his father were sitting at the island that was full of food, waiting for their guest to join them.
“Oh, good. You found your way.” Bardock stood and greeted him good morning. Vegeta returned the greeting as Bardock invited him to sit and eat.
When he took his place by Kakarot’s side, they immediately dug in. Vegeta didn’t eat very much because he was so busy watching the father and son eat. They ate with much gusto and they ate a lot. Most of the food was gone by the time Vegeta was halfway done with his first plate. ‘How come I didn’t notice this last time? It’s hard not to.’ Vegeta thought of the reason before he remembered the reason why he was here. ‘Oh.’ When they finished, they both leaned back in their seats and absentmindedly rubbed their stomachs.
“That was great!” Kakarot exclaimed, then paused as he looked over at Vegeta and noticed his ‘half-full’ plate. “Are you feeling okay, Vegeta? You hardly ate anything on your plate.” Bardock made a face as a small panic went through him. He didn’t think about watching their eating habits around their guest.
Vegeta stared at Kakarot for a minute before looking down at his plate. “Oh, yeah. Well…I’m not that used to eating breakfast, so I don’t have that big of an appetite in the morning.” Which was not a lie.
“Oh.” Kakarot looked disappointed. “Well, you should. It’s the most important meal of the day.”
Vegeta raised an eyebrow. “So I hear.” Kakarot chuckled in reply, then a moment of silence ensued.
Bardock stood. “Shall we check your bandage?”
They both looked up at him as Vegeta nodded and followed Bardock to his ‘work room.’ As Bardock changed it, he decided to start a conversation. “So, how are we feeling today?”
Vegeta frowned at the question. ‘Why do doctors always feel the need to say ‘we’ when asking that question?’ “We’re feeling pretty good.” He answered with a shrug.
The doc didn’t notice. “Good. Think you’ll be well enough for school tomorrow?”
Vegeta thought a moment as he took in his well-being. “Yes, I believe so.”
“Great.” Bardock took a step back from him as he finished with the bandage. “Change that two to three times a day and put this on it before putting on another bandage.” He handed him a little tube that had clear gel in it.
“Okay.” He hopped down from the metal cot he was sitting on and clenched the tube in his hand, then proceeded to leave the room.
“Vegeta.” Bardock called him so he could talk to him a little longer. Vegeta stopped before reaching the door, then walked back towards the kind man. “I believe you’re well enough to go home. Whenever you want to leave, just let me know and I can take you home.”
“Oh, that won’t be necessary. I live right across the street.” He gestured towards the front of the house.
Bardock was taken back. “You do? Well, how ‘bout that. Well, still. We can escort you home.” He smiled playfully.
Vegeta couldn’t help but smile back. That smile looks just like Kakarot’s. ‘Does it run in the family?’ “How kind of you.”
“Anything to help.” Bardock nodded then lead the way out of the room.
