A muffled groan echoed around a small cave when Vegeta gradually awoke from a restless sleep. When he became fully conscious, he realized why. Every muscle, joint, and bone ached in his entire being, which was to be expected after his transformations, but for some reason, it seemed to hurt more than usual. Slowly, he sat up from where he lay on the rocky floor only to see a figure sitting across from him facing the wall as it rocked back and forth. He recognized the wild hair on his head and realized it was Kakarot. He was surprised to see him, but even more surprised to see him naked. “Kakarot?” He asked in confusion. Kakarot whimpered loudly in response and rocked a little more. Vegeta grunted in an effort to crawl towards the rocking form then paused when he reached him. He called out to him again, but didn’t get a response. Vegeta suddenly became concerned for the other and gingerly reached out to touch him on the shoulder. “Kakarot…are you…alright?”
When his hand made contact, the rocking stopped and Kakarot immediately began to sob. The boy turned and suddenly embraced the naked form of the other; that Vegeta vaguely noted. “V-Vegeta! I’m s-so s-sorry! Y-You t-tried to t-tell me and I-I just w-wouldn’t l-listen!” Kakarot stammered as he sobbed into Vegeta’s bare chest.
Vegeta froze at the contact but did nothing, since the boy seemed inconsolable. “What are you talking about Kakarot? What happened last night?” He laid a hand on Kakarot’s shoulder in an attempt to calm him so he may speak.
Kakarot pulled back slightly and rubbed the tears from his eyes with his forearm. “Th-Three days.” He murmured.
Vegeta’s breath was caught in his throat. “What?”
Kakarot sniffed. “I-It’s been three days s-since you transf-formed. I-I tho…I thought y-you w-were…” He trailed off and began crying again. “I-I didn’t kn-know what to dooooo!” He sobbed loudly.
Vegeta let the information soak in for a minute before coming to his senses. “Aw, Kakarot. It’s alright, I’m okay. I’m just…a little sore is all. What else happened? How come I was out for so long?”
It took a few minutes for Kakarot to calm down again and then hiccupped. “I-I…I thought that if…I to-took you…out-side then…the-the moon would…h-help it…g-go by…faster a-and it did…th-then you…ran o-off and…” His hiccups kept interrupting his sentence before he continued to sob quietly.
Vegeta took some pity in the boy as he rubbed his arm in an attempt to calm him. “Then what?”
He sniffed. “A-And then…y-you…” He shook his head. He didn’t want to tell him what happened.
Vegeta waited a moment. “Go on. You can tell me.” He said reassuringly.
Kakarot hiccupped. “Y-You…attacked…a v-village.” He looked up at the other prince as if he were going to be hit.
Vegeta froze. “I…I attacked people?” At Kakarot’s hesitant nod, it was Vegeta’s turn to panic. “Did…Did I…kill…anyone?” Kakarot merely looked at him with tear-filled eyes before facing the ground and continued to cry silently. Vegeta’s breathing came out erratic and slow. Oh God. He ‘ate’ them. He knew he would. When he transformed, his instincts took over and there was nothing else to think about besides the craving. After a few minutes, he gently but firmly took Kakarot’s chin in his hand and moved it up so he could look into pitiful eyes. “Tell me…what else happened? Did I attack you?”
Kakarot sniffed again. “Yes, but…” He wiped his face again with his arm. “My f…my f-father came and…saved me.” No, he didn’t want to think about him.
Vegeta tightened the grip on his hand, which made Kakarot wince. “Bardock was there?” He looked around them in the cave and through the entrance. “Is he here now?”
“I-If he was…w-we wouldn’t be h-here.” The boy answered shakily.
Vegeta sighed in understanding. “Right. Wait, you said I wouldn’t attack you.” His grip tightened on the younger’s jaw as he tilted it upwards a little. “You said…that I would recognize you.” He said slowly, starting to panic.
Kakarot took a hold of Vegeta’s arm to relieve some of the pressure on his chin. “I-I said that…i-it takes…time-ah!” He yelped when Vegeta gripped him tighter, almost breaking his jaw.
“You said I would recognize you! Do you remember saying that?! You were so damn certain that I wasn’t going to attack you and now you’re saying I did?! What the hell, Kakarot!” Vegeta was livid. The boy seemed so certain…he said it’s happened before.
Kakarot winced. “I-I’m…sorry. I…I thought I could-“
“Sorry isn’t going to bring back the people I killed Kakarot! Hell, I’m surprised I’m still alive after Bardock showed up!” He growled.
Kakarot whimpered as the memories came to him again. “Me too.” He whispered.
At those two words, Vegeta shut his mouth for a few moments and let the other go, leaving red fingerprints on the younger’s pale skin. He looked away for a moment before returning to their previous conversation. “So, then what?”
Another sniffle. “Well, he…att-acked you, until you were…h-hurt so badly, I th-thought…I thought you w-were…” He didn’t look into the other’s eyes as tears threatened to fall again.
Vegeta saw this and wiped at the corners of the little one’s eyes so he may stop. “No more of that now. It’s all over now. Right? Everything’s fine.”
Kakarot pushed the other’s hands away and shook his head. “No it’s not! Everything is not fine at all! I just found out that my father and brother have been lying to me! My kind eat humans! We started this war! We…we deserve to die for what we’ve done.” He shouted at first in frustration and anger, then the waterworks started again.
Vegeta gave him a look of understanding. “I told you.” He meant to say it nicely but it turned out to sound annoying.
“I know!” Kakarot pounded at Vegeta’s chest. Vegeta winced slightly, which caused Kakarot to pound it again, but lighter. “I know.” He repeated.
After a few minutes of awkward silence, Vegeta broke it. “So, where are we?”
Kakarot shook his head, his gaze staring at the ground. “I don’t know. I just know that we’re no longer in our territory. I…I just kept running until I couldn’t run anymore…which was this morning…” He trailed off, his shoulders and eyes drooping in exhaustion.
Vegeta’s eyes widened in surprise as a bead of sweat formed on his brow in panic. “Wha?! We could be anywhere!”
Kakarot sighed then moved to hug his knees again. “It doesn’t matter. There’s no going home anyway.”
“Maybe not for you, but I’d like to return sometime!” Vegeta yelled.
Kakarot sighed again. “I saved your life twice and you yell at me.” He mumbled quietly.
Vegeta growled. “What are you mumbling about?!”
Kakarot narrowed his eyes at the half breed. “I stopped my father from killing you then I carried your beaten body away so he wouldn’t finish the job! And what is the thanks I get? Take me home? Ha! You can take yourself home if you want to die so badly! I risked everything I had for you and I don’t get any speck of appreciation for it!” With that, Kakarot stood and left the cave.
Vegeta watched him leave with a dumbstruck expression before shaking himself out of it. He followed the boy out and into the sunlit forest. “What makes you think I’m going to die when I return home?!” He yelled after him.
Kakarot continued walking angrily through the mossy forest. “I heard them! They wanted you dead or alive and me to be killed on sight! I figured, why bring you back to a prison when you can just run free? Especially to people that fear you. I don’t see why you protect them in the first place! You’re hated by everyone around you and you don’t even know it!”
Vegeta sprinted in front of Kakarot and stood in his path. “First off, don’t act like you don’t know what the hell you’re talking about! I am well aware of what people think of me! I just don’t know what other purpose I have in life if all I can do is kill the likes of you!” He pointed a finger into the other’s chest.
Kakarot glared at the prince. “So, you still want to kill me? After all that I’ve done for you? Fine! Here’s your chance! What are you waiting for?!” He stood with his arms spread out, leaving himself open.
Vegeta glared back and sneered before grabbing a hold of the younger’s neck and bringing him closer to sneer in his face. “I would if I could, but since I have no damn clue as to where I am, you’re my only hope in getting me home. So, I’d appreciate the cooperation.”
Kakarot gritted his teeth when he responded. “I hate to break it to you, but I’m not going home. So I guess you’re on your own.” He didn’t move until Vegeta released him with a shove of his hand.
“You damn, brat. You’ll take me home one way or another. I’m sure you’ll get homesick soon enough. Besides,” He paused as Kakarot made his way around him and continued his trek through unknown territory. “I bet ‘daddy’s’ going to come and get you once he catches on your trail.” He smirked, but at the same time, couldn’t help but get a feeling of dread at the thought.
Kakarot stopped and smirked back slightly, turning his head a little so Vegeta could see it. “I covered my tracks and disguised my scent. He’ll never find me.”
Vegeta took a step back in surprise. “What?! How could you possibly do that?!”
Kakarot faced forward again and rested his hands on his sides. “Simple. I stepped lightly and ran quickly and also went out of my way to disorient anyone who’d be following me by leading them in the wrong direction and trekking back. I rubbed myself on different things to cover my scent.”
Vegeta clenched his fists. “Why you-!”
Kakarot turned towards Vegeta fully. “Oh and by the way, it’s been three days. Everyone probably thinks we’re dead anyway. So, what’s the point in returning?”
The half breed growled. “No! I refuse to accept the possibility of being stuck with you!”
Kakarot frowned. “Then go where you like.” He turned and continued to head where he was going.
Vegeta watched the other leave helplessly. “Hey, where are you going?”
“To a village.” Kakarot answered angrily.
Vegeta pouted for a moment then exhaled in frustration and followed. He ran until he caught up with the younger cub and walked beside him. He suddenly hugged himself when a cool breeze blew around him. “How are we going to get clothes? We don’t have any money!”
Kakarot ignored the urge to point out that Vegeta was following him and simply answered. “We’ll just ask to borrow some, if they’re nice enough.”
“Hn.” Vegeta snorted and continued walking in silence for a few moments before talking again. “And when can we get something to eat? I’m starving! I haven’t eaten in three days I’ll have you know!”
Kakarot growled in his ever growing frustration. Seriously, why did he save this guy? He was such a bother! “You can eat whenever you like! Look! There’s a squirrel!” He pointed out so Vegeta could keep his mouth shut and maybe go after the small creature.
Vegeta eyed the critter. “That’s not going to fill me up! Let me know if you smell a deer nearby.”
Kakarot eyed his companion. “Do I look like your servant? You can smell deer, can’t you?”
Vegeta scowled. “Yes, but not as far as you.”
The young prince gave the other a look of suspicion before answering. “Whatever.” Yeah, this was going to be fun.

“Shit, shit, shit, shit, shit!” Yet another table met its unfortunate end followed by a fist meeting a wall. Bardock clutched his head in his seething anger and guilt before unleashing his temper once again. He was running out of furniture to murder.
“Is something wrong, father?” A cold voice asked as Raditz entered his father’s chambers. “Did someone make another half breed?” He asked sarcastically.
In the blink of an eye, Bardock suddenly appeared in front of his eldest son and grabbed him by the throat. “You watch your vile tongue you brat! Or do you want to return to your cell?” He threatened darkly.
Raditz swallowed thickly but did not respond until his father let him go. “Where’s Kakarot? I’ve been hearing rumors that he died or ran off.” He said in barely contained rage…and his father was telling him ‘he’ was irresponsible…
Bardock seethed and turned his back to his son. “No, he didn’t die…idiot.”
Raditz growled. “Then what the hell happened?! You haven’t said a word since you returned and that was a week ago!”
Bardock whipped around and growled at the other, baring his teeth. “I don’t know! One minute he was there and the next…he’s gone.” He finished weakly.
Raditz crossed his arms. “What happened?” He asked a little more politely.
Bardock went to stand in front of his desk, which was split in two and placed a hand on his face in exhaustion before returning his furious gaze towards his son. “That…fucking half breed…is what happened.” He sneered coldly.
Raditz uncrossed his arms and took a step forward in worry. “Did he-?!”
“He tried to!” Bardock cut him off. “He tried to hurt him, but I stopped him. I beat the damn thing senseless…until Kakarot…stopped me.”
Raditz took a step back at that. “Kakarot…did what?”
Bardock sighed. “I know. I almost didn’t believe it myself, but he pleaded me…begged me to stop…to not kill him.” He scoffed then. “At first, he thought I was you.” He looked his son in the eye. “Although, he didn’t know where his darling brother was, did he?” He smirked as he began advancing toward him.
Raditz’ gaze darted all around in an attempt to piece everything together. His breathing sped up when it hit him. “He knows.” He whispered then looked to his sadistic father. “You told him?!”
Bardock scoffed again. “Of course not. Those…damn villagers were enough to convince him that we lied to him.” He paused briefly in his anger.
Raditz froze. “We?”
Bardock smirked again. “You and I of course. It’s one thing if I lie to him. He’d have you to go to, but for you to keep it all from him? If I’m responsible, so are you. How long were you expecting him to remain ignorant?”
Raditz looked away and clenched his hands into fists. “Longer than what I was expecting.” He answered quietly. He looked at his father then. “Where’s the half breed now?”
Bardock shrugged. “No one knows. Not even his own father. I’m assuming Kakarot took him with him.”
Raditz stared at him wide eyed. “Why would he do a thing like that? Does he want to get killed?”
“If he isn’t already.” Bardock mumbled.
It was Raditz’ turn to rush forward and grab a hold of the collar of his father’s shirt. “No! He’s not! Kakarot’s stronger than that! If anything, he probably spared the half breed and ditched him somewhere! Either that or…” He trailed off, knowing that his words weren’t true.
Bardock smacked at Raditz’ hands to let him go and shoved him away. “Or what? Kill him himself?” He scoffed. “I may not have hunted with him but I know just as well as you that he doesn’t have the guts to do something like that.”
After a few moments of contemplating, Raditz fled from the room. “Someone has to bring him home…where he belongs.”
“Good luck with that! I already tried tracking him but the boy’s smart! Somehow, he learned how to hide his scent and his tracks!” Bardock yelled after his foolish son then went back to stewing in his anger.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Come on, Kakarot! What are waiting for?! Kill it or we’ll both starve!” Vegeta yelled at the poor boy while pointing at a deer a good distance away, but out of earshot.
Kakarot shook his head in denial. “I can’t! I just can’t! Can’t you do it?”
Vegeta growled. “I could if I had the damn speed, but unlike you, I lack the ability to transform at will!” He huffed while glaring at the scared boy then took a deep breath to calm down. “Look, I’m sick of living off of rabbits and squirrels! I want some real meat!”
Kakarot looked at the grazing deer with worry then looked back to the other prince. “No. I can’t do it.”
Vegeta huffed again then looked at the deer and turned his attention back to the boy. “Alright, I have a plan. Think you can be a part of it?”
Kakarot kicked the dirt nervously. “That all depends. Do I have to kill it?” He asked timidly.
Vegeta sighed and ran a hand through his flame-like hair. “No. Leave that to me.” He took a hold of the boy’s shoulders in an attempt to get his attention. “Listen, I want you to head over on the other side of the deer until you can’t see me. Then run after it so that way it gets spooked and runs over towards me. That’s when I’ll jump it and bring it down. Think you can do that?”
Kakarot glanced at the deer worriedly before looking back to the intense gaze directed at him and nodded. “Yeah, I think so.”
Vegeta stared at him for a moment then nodded. “Okay. So, go do it.”
Kakarot narrowed his eyes slightly then nodded again before going to do what he was told. He crept through the tall grass and headed to the sunlit clearing that held the peaceful animal. Vegeta watched the boy calmly and crossed his arms as another cool wind blew through him. He shivered at the breeze and cursed at the clothing he wore. The shirt was short sleeved and black and the pants were the same color and hugged his legs snuggly. He snagged them from a clothes line that was out behind someone’s home in a tiny village. Hell, it was hardly considered a village. There were only a few homes grouped together and that was all. Not even a market. Sure there were a couple homes that raised livestock. One raised pigs and the other chickens. He and Kakarot ate pretty well for those couple days. The food would’ve lasted longer, but they had no way to store the meat and it was a hassle to carry. It would be the same way with this deer.
Vegeta also found some clothing for the cub. A white long sleeved shirt with brown pants, well, he kept the pants at least. The boy ended up losing the shirt while he was bathing in a stream and it got washed away. He lectured him about it, but then Kakarot retorted that it was stolen anyway and it didn’t matter. The boy was still stingy about him stealing, but he defended himself saying that it was for a good cause, they needed them and the people living there had plenty more, so it’s not like they’d miss them. However, Kakarot didn’t seem to buy it. Funny, he didn’t complain when they stole the pig and the chicken.
Vegeta was suddenly brought out of his musings when something big was heading towards him. He targeted the deer and swiftly took out his knife, also stolen, and jumped on top of the animal when it passed by him and quickly dragged the knife across the animal’s fuzzy neck, successfully cutting it open. He jumped off of it gracefully when it fell to the ground and slid a few feet from the momentum. He wiped off the blade on his pants and slid it in the back of his pants where the color of the handle blended in with the color of his clothing. Kakarot came running back just in time to see the blood seep out of the wound on the creature as it still thrashed. He quickly turned away when he saw this and walked a few feet away. Vegeta scowled at the other’s reaction then bent down and turned the deer’s neck, swiftly breaking it and killing it instantly. Kakarot cringed when he heard the animal’s neck breaking and bent over so his hands rested on his knees in an effort not to vomit.
The half breed sighed. “What would you do without me?”
Kakarot panted as sweat beaded on his brow and fell down his face. “Probably starve.” He answered weakly then turned around to see the animal unmoving. He took a few steps closer to inspect it a little more and bent down next to it on the other side of Vegeta. “Why didn’t you just break its neck in the first place?” He couldn’t help but wonder.
“Because I wanted it to bleed out more before I sliced it up, but I forgot you don’t like all that blood, do you?” Vegeta smirked.
Kakarot covered his mouth and turned away from the sight of the blood. “You don’t have to be cruel about it.” He panted slightly.
Vegeta chuckled. “I just find it odd is all. I mean here you are, a full-blooded werewolf, a completely different species I might add and you can’t take a little blood. Not to mention,” he turned the deer’s head his way, causing the blood to seep out more, “you like a little blood in your meat.”
Kakarot couldn’t hold it back anymore and puked on the ground in front of him. He gagged a few more times and coughed to get the nasty bile out of his mouth and throat. He took a few breaths before saying the obvious, “I’m not hungry anymore.”
Vegeta just shook his head and laughed. “Aw come on. After all we went through to get it?” He sighed then began cutting off the deer’s hide. Kakarot watched in mild fear and disgust when he watched the other roll the deer around until there was nothing but meat, muscle, and fat. He fought the urge to puke again at the sight, but managed to keep it at bay. Vegeta then began to gut the deer by slowly and carefully slicing down from the deer’s pelvic area to the neck. Kakarot scrunched his eyes together as the blood and organs began falling out. He suddenly turned his back to the scene and vomited again. Vegeta watched the other for a moment then went back to the task of cleaning his prey. “Go and get some firewood while I prepare this. That way you don’t have to watch.”
Kakarot spit out some of the bile before staggering in the opposite direction. “O-kay.”
When he was a good distance away and the blood smelled fainter, his head became more clear and the nausea faded as he concentrated on the task at hand. God, could he be even more pathetic? Vegeta was right. Here he was, the best of his kind, a-whole-nother generation of power and he can’t even stand the sight of blood. Then again, he was just a cub. Not to mention he hasn’t seen it much in his life. Now that he has, he wasn’t looking forward to getting used to it, but if this was the lifestyle he was going to live, then he’ll have to. Seeing a pretty good sized stick on the ground, Kakarot bent down and picked it up then brushed some leaves and mud off of it before looking for some more.
He couldn’t help but wonder if his brother was worried about him. Was he looking for him too? How come his father came to his rescue and he didn’t? Did he feel bad for lying to him? Keeping secrets from him? He sighed. Probably not. After all, his brother was doing it long before he was born. He was still having a hard time accepting the thought that his kind were cold blooded killers. What did that make him? He’s lived with them all his life, how were they able to keep it all from him? He scoffed. The lies, of course. All they needed to do was tell him a logical reason why they were at war, something that a child could understand…a fairytale. That’s what they told him. Kakarot almost wished that it still was, that he didn’t know anything about the truth, but at the same time, he knew he’d find out eventually. It was only a matter of time. He bent down to pick up another stick.
Now that he thought about it, he was really glad that Vegeta stayed with him. After all it was true, he would starve if he wasn’t here. He wouldn’t be able to kill a deer or a squirrel. He couldn’t harm a living thing, he found that out on his first hunt. Vegeta on the other hand…kills everything in his path. He found that out the first few days he was with him. If he was hungry, he would grab the nearest living thing and eat it raw. The thought alone made Kakarot’s stomach lurch. He gagged lightly then quickly erased the thought from his mind.
He came across a branch lying on the ground and went over to break it in half before picking up the pieces. When he continued forward, he noted a berry vine creeping up some trees not far ahead. He looked at the berries in question and noticed that they were dark blue and clustered together. He noticed more of them were around and some had yellow flowers growing on them with five small petals. What kind were they? Were they safe? He sniffed them to make sure and scrunched his nose and backed away when he smelled a sour odor and not sweet like he’s smelled from berries before. He sniffed them carefully again and sneezed. The slight burn in his nostrils told him they weren’t safe. He ignored them and continued searching for more wood while keeping an eye out for more berries.
When night began to settle in, Kakarot returned with a bundle of various sizes of wood and dropped them on the ground near where Vegeta was slicing the meat into considerable slices. Kakarot eyed the meat suspiciously. “You’re not done yet?”
Vegeta looked up at the boy and pointed his bloody knife at him. “Hey, I had to cut through lots of bone to get this far, okay? Besides, I don’t exactly have a very good knife. Look how tiny this is! I’ve gutted werewolves with knives bigger than this! This is a toothpick!” He sighed as he eyed the dull blade. “I miss my knife.”
Kakarot shivered at the image of Vegeta gutting his kind, but quickly ignored it then kneeled on the ground and started to make a fire. When Vegeta looked over to see what the other was doing, he stopped at his task. “What are you doing?”
Kakarot was rubbing two sticks together as fast as he could. He paused a moment to answer the half breed’s question. “Making a fire. What does it look like?”
Vegeta rolled his eyes. “Oh come on. We’ll be here all night.” He pouted when the other ignored him then moved to kneel beside him. “Here, let me show you how to do it.” He found a rock nearby and some dry leaves then began striking his knife against the rock which created sparks. He aimed for the dry leaves and hit the rock with the blade a few more times before it finally caught fire. He carefully moved the leaves under the sticks and blew at the smoky little flame until it caught the other sticks on fire. “There. You see? Now, feed it with dead dry plants and it’ll keep burning.” He stood then paused. “Just, watch it. Make sure it doesn’t catch the whole forest on fire, okay?”
Kakarot looked at him for a moment then nodded. He’s seen Vegeta make a fire before, but didn’t really pay attention until now. He scooted over by Vegeta who was now skewering the meat slabs with long thick sticks. “How do you know all of this?”
Vegeta kept his concentration on his task as he scoffed. “Please, I’ve spent most of my life hunting your kind. So therefore, I’ve spent most of my time out in the wilderness. I had to learn a thing or two to survive. Hell, some of the things I’ve learned from experience and it’s because of that I’m alive today.” He handed a couple skewers to Kakarot who hesitantly took them then moved over to the growing fire and held the meat into the flames so it would cook faster.
Vegeta took a couple himself and sat across from Kakarot next to the fire and held the meat the same way. After a few minutes, Vegeta appeared to be impatient as the flames licked the meat, slowly cooking it. He sighed. Kakarot gave him a worried look. “How’s…you know, you’re hunger now?”
The half breed lightly bounced one of the skewers in place in his impatience. “Are you kidding? I’m famished! We haven’t eaten since yesterday!” He tilted his head back to look at the dark sky.
Kakarot sighed in slight relief. “That’s not what I meant.” He waited until the other got the point.
“Oh. Ohhhhhh. You mean, the craving.” Kakarot nodded when Vegeta scowled. “It’s fine. It shouldn’t be a problem until halfway into the month. The closer the full moon gets, the worse the craving.”
“Oh.” Kakarot gave him a pitied look then concentrated on the meat, which was suddenly on fire. He quickly pulled it away to blow out the flame on it and inspected it to see if it was ruined, only to see the part that was on fire was cooked slightly. He sighed in impatience himself before putting it back in the fire. His stomach growled at the smell of the cooking food as well as Vegeta’s. Both drooled the longer it took for the food to cook. Kakarot shook his head in uncertainty. “I don’t know how much longer I can take this. We’re constantly traveling by foot, it takes hours to find food and even longer to cook it, we’re being careful not to be seen by humans, and we’re sleeping either on the cold hard ground or in trees! And it’s only been a week! I want a bed! I’m tired of catching and cooking our own food! I want someone else to do it in the less amount of time! I’m tired of being paranoid everywhere we go!” Kakarot whined.
Vegeta frowned when the boy first started ranting then growled when he was finished. “Well, we don’t have much of a choice, do we?! We’d be able to make all those things come true if we weren’t avoiding humans, but we can’t take the risk! What if they notice us? We’ll be hunted!” He let out a breathy sigh then grimaced. “Besides, I’m the one that’s been doing the catching and cooking for you, so you can cross that off your list.”
Kakarot scowled in return. “Yeah, but you still take forever.”
Vegeta sneered. “Then you can do it from now on!”
Kakarot sighed. “Maybe people won’t recognize us this far away. Maybe they don’t know anything about the war. I haven’t smelled another wolf since I left home. Maybe…they’re not this far-“
“Maybe isn’t good enough, Kakarot! We still have to be careful…” Good God the child wouldn’t shut up. Sure the company’s nice, but it wouldn’t hurt for him to be quiet every now and then. Vegeta thought he’d get used to it after a while, but it still has yet to happen. He sighed again in boredom then looked over to where he left the hide of the deer and back at Kakarot.
Kakarot looked up to give him a suspicious look. “What?”
“You can’t be prancing around the wilderness half naked. Someone will suspect something.” Vegeta eyed him.
Kakarot perked up at his words then turned to the deer hide Vegeta was looking at a moment ago. The very fur that was a part of the very creature they were having for dinner, something that was alive….he shook his head and cringed. “No. I don’t want to wear something that was a part of another creature. Besides, I don’t get cold. My body temperature is warmer than a human’s.”
Vegeta narrowed his eyes. “Like I said, someone will suspect something. Winter is coming soon and the temperature is dropping. If they see you like that and that you’re not even effected by the weather, they’ll be suspicious. You have to where something else besides pants. Besides, it’d be wasteful.” He eyed the deer hide again.
Kakarot followed his gaze then cringed inwardly and tensed. “I don’t know.”
Vegeta rolled his eyes. “Oh come on. Don’t be such a baby! It’s not like I’m asking you to eat it or anything! Just wear it!”
“Ugh! Don’t say that! It makes it worse!” The cub looked away.
The half breed glared at the younger then shrugged. “Fine, but if you get hunted and killed, I only ask that you are transformed when you die. That way, I can take ‘your’ fur.” He said nonchalantly with a smirk.
Kakarot shivered at the thought of Vegeta cutting away his fur like he did with the deer. “Fine! I’ll wear the damn thing!”
Vegeta laughed. “Thought so.”
“Jerk.” Kakarot muttered.
“Pussy.” Vegeta retorted.
Kakarot glared at him, but said nothing as he continued to watch the meat cook. About half an hour later, their dinner was medium rare and ready to eat, according to them, and chowed down with much gusto. Finally with something in their stomach, they were a little more patient when they cooked the rest of the meat and finished it off in silence before going to a nearby stream and rinsing off and getting ready for sleep. Vegeta stood by the dying fire and watched it for a moment then turned to the other cub. “Your turn. Top or bottom?”
The boy quirked an eyebrow as he thought about it for a moment. “Bottom. I’m still sore from being on top a couple nights ago.”
Vegeta nodded then popped his back. “Agreed. In that case, we have to put out the fire.”
Kakarot picked a spot on the ground and was preparing to make himself comfortable. “Why?”
“So we won’t catch fire in our sleep.” He said it like it was obvious.
Kakarot missed it. “Oh.”
After Vegeta put out the fire, he paused in the darkness and listened for anything. “Kakarot, do you smell or hear anything nearby?”
Kakarot took a moment to do just that then tensed. “Um, actually, maybe we should sleep in the trees tonight.” He answered uneasily.
“Why?” Vegeta asked suspiciously.
“Because there’s a pack of wolves not far off.” Kakarot looked in the direction of the wolves. He could hear their sniffing and barking and feel the small vibrations of their paws hitting the earth.
Vegeta tensed as well. “You mean, werewolves or actual wolves?”
Kakarot turned to the other prince and placed a hand behind his head in slight embarrassment. “Oh! I mean regular wolves.”
Vegeta let out a breath he didn’t know he was holding then narrowed his eyes at the younger. “Be more specific next time!” He looked off where Kakarot was looking earlier. “They probably smelled the deer we cooked. Come on, let’s go hunt for a tree.” He said tiredly then picked up the deer’s hide and walked in the opposite direction.
Kakarot stood and yawned. “Oh boy. Trees.” He answered unenthusiastically and followed the other.
I actually looked up the berries and how to skin and debone a deer…that one was on youtube. >.> Yeah, that was pleasant. I watched it in disgust, but when it was over, I was hungry. Doesn’t make any sense. Anyway, the berries were Ivy. It was going to be Pokeweed, lol, pokeweed. X) But, it was only found in North America. The Ivy is found in Africa, central Europe, eastern Japan I think and other places over there. Everything else on here I winged so, once again, apologies if it’s wrong. This was an extra-long chapter for you guys, hope you liked! :D
