“talking”
Vegeta decided to stay a while longer and get to know Kakarot some more. He was right about the teen being a bit of a nerd, but that can be good in several ways. Sentaro was also right about Kakarot’s gentle nature. It seemed like he wanted to help everyone around him. He even worried constantly about every little thing that Vegeta did. For instance, whenever he’d sigh or take a deep breath Kakarot asked if his chest was hurting, but the fact of the matter was, he’d be staring at Kakarot so long, he’d forget where he was and sigh in dreamy bliss. At either the way he was moving or the way he spoke…or the way he touched him. Kakarot hardly touched him. Almost as if he was afraid to hurt him if he did. He figured it was because of what he’s been through, but it seemed like there was more to it. The mysterious teen also seemed guarded, almost cautious around him like he was around others at school...another thing that Sentaro was right about. He may be odd, but the more Vegeta couldn’t figure him out, the more he started to fall for him, if that was even possible…or logical.
For some reason, Vegeta became more excited when Kakarot became more mysterious. It was almost like trying to figure out a puzzle…a really hot puzzle that made him blush every time it looked his way. But in reality, Vegeta never did think about the other possibilities…the more dangerous possibilities. After all, people always seem to be cautious around the quiet ones, but he never thought about it. Kakarot seemed too much of an angel to him that he never considered him to be dangerous. Then again, how could he?
As the weekend drew to a close, Bardock and Kakarot stood on their porch as they said their goodbyes to Vegeta. “Now remember, put this on at least twice a day until it heals.” Bardock explained as he handed over a small container that held a clear gel to put on his injury.
“I will. Thank you both for your hospitality.” Vegeta answered as he looked to his crush for a farewell.
“Think nothing of it. We couldn’t just leave you on the street, could we?” However, Bardock’s answer fell on deaf ears as Vegeta stared at Kakarot, who looked like he was having trouble saying his farewell.
“I, uh, hope you feel better tomorrow.” The beauty said while rubbing the back of his head in a nervous gesture.
Vegeta smiled thoughtfully. “I’m sure I will and I can’t thank you enough…for what you did…” He felt nervous as it seemed he kept repeating himself. The last thing he wanted was to make himself sound like a broken record, but he felt like he had to do or say something on the matter. As if…thanking him wasn’t enough.
Bardock watched the two for a moment before frowning and crossing his arms at the scene. ‘I thought I told the boy not to get close to anyone and here he is…stuttering like a fool and getting nervous like a virgin.’ He eyed the other teen wearily. ‘I’ve heard about this one. Of course, in a small town like this, it’s hard not to know everything about everyone. This kid has been causing trouble everywhere he goes and that’s the last thing my son needs. Though, it’s not like he needs anyone’s help to cause trouble. Why else would we move into this backwater town?’
Kakarot smiled softly. “Don’t mention it. I’d do it again if the situation ever repeated itself.” He blushed lightly after hearing what he just said.
Vegeta blushed more darkly in return and started stuttering himself. “Uh, well…s-see you tomorrow!” And with that he quickly left their sight and ran across the street.
After the lithe teen left, Kakarot looked to his father and scowled at the look he was receiving. “Oh, don’t give me that look. I’m not doing anything wrong.”
“Not yet you’re not, but if you’re not careful, something will go wrong. Do you want a repeat in what happened last time?” Bardock growled at his son.
“No! Of course not! Besides, what makes you think that’ll happen again? Don’t you think I’ve learned my lesson already? I know the mistakes I’ve made and I do learn from them.” Kakarot defended himself.
Bardock sighed as he studied his son for a moment. “Sometimes I wonder if you do learn anything. Either that or you’re just a magnet for danger.”
“Look, if you want to blame someone, blame the thing that did this to us!” And with that, Kakarot turned his back and went into the house.
Bardock sighed again and leaned his back on the wall of his house while staring at the two story house across the street. Well, if his son wasn’t going to be cautious, then he’ll just have to be even more so.

Vegeta leaned against the door while waiting for his heart rate to slow down. ‘God, I feel so incredibly stupid! Not only did I stutter, but I shouted out the stupid goodbye in the same sentence! Damn it. Look at me, worrying about something so little as a mere messed up goodbye. It’s not like he’ll judge me by the way I talk…or will he? Damn!’ He turned and beat his fists against the door.
“What are you doing?” A voice boomed behind him.
Startled, Vegeta quickly turned and noticed his father standing in the living room doorway with his arms crossed. “I, uh…nothing. You’re home early.”
His father frowned. “It’s Sunday.”
Vegeta slumped. “Oh.”
“Where have you been? Did you get drunk at that festival? Did you do anything illegal or get into any fights? Tell me.” His father seemed really calm for one who was scolding his son.
Vegeta suddenly became nervous and couldn’t look his father in the eye. “Well, you could say…that I got into a little brawl, but nothing you need to worry yourself about.” He added on quickly.
The man came closer and brought up a hand to take a hold of his son’s chin and turned his face looking for bruises. After not seeing any evidence of a fight, he pulled back and crossed his arms again. “Remember, I stopped drinking so you don’t get into any more fights.”
Vegeta tried not to flinch when his father touched him and ducked his head slightly when he pulled away. “I haven’t forgotten. And we both seemed to have done pretty well so far. Now, I’m going to work on my homework.” He passed his father towards the stairs.
“You bet your ass you are! I don’t want you sleeping until you’re done!” His father yelled up at him as he went into his room, but instead of immediately hitting the books, he went to his window and searched for the lovely teen that he just saw.
He found him in his room and standing next to his bed. ‘What’s he doing?’ He seemed to be studying the sheets as he reached out and touched them thoughtfully. He then lifted them to inspect them and slowly turned his attention toward his direction. He gasped in surprise and ducked underneath his window. ‘Oh crap! Did he see me?’ Deciding not to chance it just yet, he waited a moment longer before slowly peaking over the sill. Kakarot’s gaze seemed to have gone back to the sheets as he brought them closer and sniffed them. A dark blush came over Vegeta’s cheeks again as he watched the display. ‘What…is he…doing?’ Kakarot’s eyes became half-lidded as he continued to sniff them. ‘Oh, my God. Is he…what is he doing?!’ Too embarrassed to watch the display any longer, he ducked underneath the window again and tried to get his bearings. ‘W-Was he…smelling me?’ He gulped as the blush stayed on his cheeks. ‘If so, he seemed to…like it.’ Gathering the courage to look again, he peered up over the sill and noticed that his crush was gone.
Vegeta groaned in displeasure, then sat below his window and leaned his head against the wall in thought. ‘How would he smell me, anyway? Those sheets smelled more like him than they did me. Besides, I even took a shower at his place. Oh, God. I hope I didn’t have a wet dream while I was asleep. That’d be so embarrassing!’ Another blush came across his face at the thought. He shook his head to get the thought out and tried to think of other things. ‘Okay. I can’t keep putting it off. I have to do my homework.’ Getting his book bag, he dumped all the contents on his bed and sifted through them. ‘I can’t believe I have math, history, AND English. All of my least favorite subjects and they’re all due this week! How am I ever going to get them done?’ He looked at the clock on the stand next to his bed and noticed that the night was just starting. He sighed. ‘I guess I’ll have to pull an all-nighter and get as much done as I can.’
After Vegeta looked over his homework for thirty minutes to an hour, he realized that he didn’t know where they were in the homework. Let alone what he’s supposed to be doing. Throwing his pencil at his book, he growled out his frustration. “Damn it! How am I supposed to do this if I don’t know what the hell we’re doing?! It’s all Brolly’s fault! If he didn’t take up so much of my time, I might know what the hell’s going on!” Finishing his rant, he turned his head towards his window and noticed Kakarot’s light was on in his room. He appeared to be sitting in bed reading and watching TV at the same time. ‘Hn. He’s probably watching Animal Planet and reading Shakespeare. He’s such a nerd.’ Vegeta frowned at the thought. ‘Perhaps…that’s why I’m so attracted to him. After all, I haven’t gone out with a guy with brains before. Maybe that’s just what I need.’
After staring at the teen for a while, a thought occurred to him. ‘Maybe the reason why I can’t concentrate on anything is because he’s always around.’ However, he quickly dismissed the idea from his head. ‘No, I can’t blame him for being gorgeous. It’s not his fault. Ah, damn it. But it is his fault for moving here. Well, his dad’s fault anyway. Or is it? It seemed like he wasn’t really telling me the truth when he explained that to me.’ His expression became disappointed. ‘I wonder, what else did he tell me that was a lie? I believe his mother getting murdered was true. Why else would he tell me something so horrible? Maybe so he’ll drive me away? Like he does with everyone else…’ He concentrated on the young man across the street again. ‘Well, unfortunately for you, I don’t give up so easily, especially with you.’ He smiled slyly at the lovely teen before yawning and glancing at his homework again. ‘Oh well. I guess I’ll just have a look at this tomorrow.’ He stood and stretched, then got around for bed.
After showering and putting on more comfortable clothes, Vegeta looked out his window and towards the enormous house across the street again. His expression became disappointed when he noticed that Kakarot was asleep. ‘Oh, well. I’ll see him tomorrow too.’ He shrugged and crawled in bed.

“What the hell happened to you?! I came back and you were gone! Not to mention I’ve been hearing all sorts of rumors!” Vegeta took a step back from his flustered friend.
“Really? So that’s why everyone’s been staring at me since I got here.” Vegeta thought aloud.
Sentaro stared at his best friend with an agitated glare. Noaru naively walked up to his friends, having no idea that an argument of sorts was taking place. “Yeah! And you have no idea what everyone is saying! I heard that you bought drugs, gave a guy a blow job so you can get them for free, and then got beat up!”
Vegeta frowned at the first two rumors. “That doesn’t sound like me.”
Sentaro huffed at his friend. “Yeah…so, what happened, man? I’ve been worried about you. Not to mention I thought to call your house a million times, but I was afraid your dad would answer.”
Vegeta walked over to his locker to get his things for his first class. “Yeah. Thanks for that.” He murmured, but Sentaro ignored it.
“I mean, would it kill you to at least tell your ‘best friend’ where you’re going so he doesn’t worry about you?” He emphasized best friend to make himself sound as important as he is.
Vegeta eyed his other friend Noaru, who seemed to just be standing idly by, not even getting involved with his thoughts. He shut his locker and turned to his hysteric friend. “You know, you left me standing there for like an hour. So don’t bitch at me for the one leaving. For all I know, you were the one giving the blow job.” He calmly said as he made his way past his friend, who stood in shock for a moment before recovering and grabbing Vegeta by his shirt and pressing him against the lockers.
“For your information-!” Sentaro shouted before looking around as some passerby’s were staring at them. He calmed himself somewhat and released his friend before toning down his voice. “I was making my move on Dorian.” He crossed his arms in a defensive pose. “If I were you, I would’ve done the same for your secret sweetheart.” Suddenly, a look of surprise took over his features as he leaned closer in excitement. “Unless you did!”
Vegeta hesitated before he answered. “You could…say that.” He cleared his throat as he made his way to his first class. However, Sentaro got in his way.
“So, how was he? Was he as good as you thought he’d be? Huh? Huh?” Sentaro nudged his friend in the arm a couple times as he walked beside him.
Vegeta growled at the annoyance his friend was becoming. “I didn’t fuck him.”
“Oh, yeah? Then what did you do?” Sentaro wagged his eyebrows in a playful manner.
Vegeta rolled his eyes at the gesture. ‘If I tell him the truth, he’ll yell at me more for not telling him in the first place, but if he believes that we did it…he’ll be even worse. Oh, well. He won’t believe me anyway.’ He sighed as he told him straight out. “Brolly’s brother Paragus jumped me down the dirt trail from the festival and Kakarot came to my rescue. I recuperated at his place over the weekend.” He explained calmly.
Sentaro and Noaru just stared at him in mild shock before Sentaro burst out laughing. “Yeah, right! Wasn’t that one of your fantasies or something?”
Noaru just stared at Vegeta in shock as he noticed that he wasn’t laughing. “I even have proof.” Vegeta said as he unzipped his jacket and lifted his shirt over the wound on his chest. “This is from when Paragus attacked me with a knife. Kakarot’s father is a doctor, so he bandaged me up and let me stay at his home.” He smirked when he noticed that Sentaro was no longer laughing and inspected the wound.
After a moment, he looked up at him with a smile. “Yeah, right. What actually happened? Did you run into a table or a door this time? Or…was it the banana and the monkey?” Sentaro looked up in thought as Vegeta sighed in frustration and resituated his clothing. He then angrily made his way past his friend and to class as Noaru stared after him with worry.
When Vegeta dropped himself in his seat, he stewed over his friend’s reaction. ‘That idiot. He wouldn’t know the truth unless it came up and bit him in the ass. That asshole thinks he knows me so well. Just when I thought he could tell if I was lying or not, but whenever I tell the truth, the idiot proves me wrong…or is in denial.’ He was brought out of his thoughts when he heard someone clear their throat in front of him.
“Uh, hi Vegeta.” Vegeta looked up once he recognized the voice and blushed at being caught off guard by the lovely teen in front of him, who had his hand behind his head and seemed to also be blushing from nervousness. “I was just wondering, um, how you were doing.” Kakarot shifted awkwardly in his place as he waited for the other’s reply.
“Oh, um, yeah. I’ve been okay…I mean great. I’ve been doing great. I’m healing slowly but surely, but only time will tell.” Vegeta ranted on in nervousness as Kakarot smiled and nodded.
“That’s good. Let me know if…there’s anything I can do for ya.” One last rub on the back of the head and a cheerful grin, Kakarot walked away towards his seat.
Vegeta let out a disappointed sigh as he watched his crush sit a distance away from him. ‘Damn it! I sounded so stupid!’ He banged his head against his desk as Brolly sat next to him. “Hey babe. I hope you studied for the test because I really need to copy off of someone.”
At the mention of a test, Vegeta slowly raised his head and stared at his ex. “Test?” He squeaked out.
Brolly nodded with a worried expression on his face. “You didn’t study?”
Vegeta’s eyes widened a fraction before sighing. “No.” And with that his head returned to resting on his desk.
“Damn it. I’m screwed.” Brolly murmured as the teacher entered the classroom and the bell rang, signaling that class was starting.
‘You and me both.’ Vegeta mentally answered as he sat up and waited for the class period to end. ‘How can they expect me to do a test when I was attacked only a couple days ago? Something like that can permanently traumatize someone for the rest of their life.’ His thoughts paused as a multiple answer sheet and a question booklet was placed in front of him. ‘At least its multiple choice. That way I won’t have to sit here all day.’ He sighed in foreboding as he started filling in blanks, not even looking at the questions.
When the period was finally over, Vegeta lazily gathered his things as everyone poured out of the classroom. From across the room, Kakarot couldn’t help but overhear that Vegeta didn’t study for the test and saw that it was mentally affecting the teen. He picked up his things and strode over to him. “Um, hey Vegeta. How’d you do on the test?” ‘I hope this is the right thing. I don’t want to bother him, but I can’t help but feel that this is my fault. Is it because he was over at my place? Maybe if I urged him to study or helped him, then perhaps he would’ve been more prepared.’
Vegeta looked up from what he was doing, then looked down sadly as he thought about the question. “Not so well. I completely forgot that there was a math test today.” He lifted his book bag over his shoulder as he tried to find a place to put his pencil.
Kakarot looked at Vegeta with concern before answering. “It wasn’t a math test, Vegeta. It was an English test.”
Vegeta looked at Kakarot in shock. His pencil fell from his hand as it clanked to the floor and rolled towards Kakarot’s foot. Kakarot watched it hit his foot before Vegeta broke down and plopped down in a chair beside him. He stared ahead of himself a moment before laying his head in his hands and tried to keep in the tears, the reality of the situation sinking in as he tried to think of a way to make up for the test. Kakarot’s expression became solemn as he bent over and picked up his pencil. He then came around and stuck it in a side pocket on Vegeta’s book bag and bent over to rest a hand on his shoulder in a comforting gesture. “Vegeta. I’m sorry. It’s my fault.”
Vegeta looked up from his hands to stare at his crush in surprise. “What makes you think that?” He asked in restrained grief.
Kakarot looked him in the eye. “Because if it weren’t for me insisting you to stay at my place, then you could’ve studied, but it also doesn’t help that you went through a traumatic experience the other day. You’ll probably be disoriented for a while until you get your life back on track.” Vegeta looked down in understanding as Kakarot continued. “But if you want, I can help you with your homework until you’ve caught up. It seems we have most of our classes together anyways, so it should work out perfectly.” He smiled sweetly in reassurance.
When Vegeta saw him smile, he had this strange feeling that everything was going to be alright. That he could get through this situation if Kakarot was there with him. Without knowing it, Vegeta smiled back. “Yes. That…would be helpful.” ‘So, the situation worked out itself. That needs to happen more often.’ Kakarot’s smile never wavered as Vegeta accepted the help. He felt good for doing this, after all, he felt somewhat responsible. When they both stood, Vegeta stepped forward and wrapped his arms around Kakarot’s waist, who was caught off guard at the unexpected gesture. “Thank you, Kakarot.” Vegeta mumbled into the other’s chest, then slowly pulled back; brushing the other’s back muscles as he did so. “By the way, it’s not your fault. I probably wouldn’t even be in school if it weren’t for you.” He smiled softly as Kakarot’s blush returned. Trying to avoid an awkward moment, Vegeta picked up his bag and left the classroom while Kakarot recovered.
While Vegeta made his way to his locker, he blushed at his actions just moments ago. ‘Why did I do that? Now he’ll probably know I’m coming onto him.’ He paused when he came up to his locker and lightly rubbed the wound on his chest. ‘He was…so warm. In fact, he felt hot, like he had a fever. His heart was beating really fast too, I could hear it.’ He glanced back towards the classroom where he last saw the teen. ‘He was like that when I was over at his place just yesterday. Then again, he did say that’s how he was born. Maybe it’s a birth defect…from when…his mother was…murdered.’ He swallowed the lump in his throat as he opened his locker to switch out his books. ‘Maybe…that’s why he doesn’t want to touch anyone? I guess that would explain his reaction when I hugged him. Shit. Now I probably ruined things for sure.’ He growled as he filled his bag once again, checking twice to make sure that he was going to the right class, then made his way towards his next period. However, he suddenly paused as he just remembered something. ‘Damn it! I was in such a hurry to leave I didn’t set up a date with him!’
