Author's Note About Soundtrack Selections:
Ever since I was little, music has always been the most influential source of my creativity. When I first began reading DBZ Fanfic, I found I was constantly listening to music that 'fit' the subject matter or situation the characters were faced with. Since music is so influential upon my creative side, I wanted to integrate it into my writing. I don't mean creating songfics - no no. What I mean is, like how a movie has a soundtrack, this fic has a soundtrack. For each chapter, I have listed the tracks I listened to as I wrote the respective chapter. Whether you wish to listen to the tracks I have selected or not is entirely up to you, but if you do have, or wish to PURCHASE the music I have listed, I think you'll enjoy this fic just a bit more than you would sitting in complete silence! :D
All the tracks I list are currently available through Apple Corp.'s iTunes, or were available during the time I wrote this fic (2007).
Please note: I am not affiliated with Apple, Apple Corp, iTunes, or any other partner, or any form of affiliate with any form of Apple Corp or iTunes. I just find it's the fastest and easiest way to purchase cheap music!
I do not condone any form of unlawful downloading of copyrighted material, be it music, or any other copyrighted form of mass entertainment.
Also note: I am not affiliated with any persons, artists, bands, groups, or organizations of authors, musicians, producers, or composers that may appear on my soundtrack selections. Should any party affiliated with any artist or organization I list wish for me to remove their name or song title from my fic, please contact me through email immediately, and it will be done upon my receiving the request.
I am not receiving any form of compensation from anyone for anything here. This is just me being creative on my own free time!
Anyway, now that that is out of the way, ENJOY!!!! :D
Prologue - Dawn
The sun shone brightly over the Son household as daybreak made its way over the mountains on the horizon. Birds chirped quietly amongst the dense forest, the sun's rays heating their nests. The forest was as quiet as ever; the animals slowly awaking from their deep slumber as those who had been awake through the night settled into their habitats. A few clouds hung over the horizon, painting small patches of white upon the clear summer sky, their size barely able to hold back the bright morning light.
Orange sunlight crept through an opened window of the master bedroom, inching its way along the hardwood flooring until it reached the side of the bed, and its single occupant. Chichi's eyes fluttered open, the light saving her from a nightmare which seemed almost too real to be a dream. It had been the third one this week, accompanied once again by the same feeling of haunting emptiness. She blinked the sleep from her eyes, groaning as her mind slowly floated back to reality.
As Chichi wearily raised her head from her pillow, she focused upon an all-too-familiar sight: a large empty space next to her. She sighed as she fell back onto her pillow in despair - it was times like these she longed for the body heat of her lover. The pillow had been dented; at least her husband had been in bed with her for a while. She ran a hand over the vacant side of the bed, hoping to feel the warmth of the Saiyan she loved.
Sighing to herself, she reached for her housecoat, the purple robe hanging from the bedpost where she'd left it the night before. She had decided not to wear anything to bed - partially because it was hot, but mostly to entice her husband into making love in the summer heat. It had been on her mind all day; the thought of his warm body moving with hers, his strong hands stroking over her soft skin. Her body had ached with longing as she imagined them together. But by the end of the day, she'd felt drained - her lack of energy descending into worry of being less frisky for her husband than she normally was. Goku was a beautiful and gentle lover, just as she always wanted, but she knew he had to hold back so much for her, making his stamina seem endless. She almost felt as if she could never fully satisfy him - it frustrated her that she wasn't able to give him the things she knew he wanted. But she couldn't help herself - Goku was a male unlike any other on Earth. He was capable of things only imaginable by any regular Human man - his personality, his charm, and his cute little facial expressions. Not to mention his body - he kept himself in perfect shape, his body bulging head to toe in toned, thick muscles.
Thoughts of Goku's mouthwatering naked body began flooding into Chichi's mind. She could see him lying next to her in their bed, the sheets at his feet, his head propped up on the pillow by a rigidly flexed bicep. He was watching her closely, holding her eyes with his own. His mouth curled into a seductive smirk as he purred quietly, tempting her to come closer. Chichi gently ran her hand over his chiseled abs, eliciting a soft moan from her lover, his hand slowly stroking his weeping erection...
Chichi quickly blinked again, groaning in frustration as she realized she had fallen back to sleep. She couldn't recall the last time she had ever nodded off that quickly - why was she so tired lately? She gradually sat up in her lonely bed, yawning loudly as she stretched out her arms and arched her back. Suddenly remembering her own nakedness, she had a moment to be glad she lived out in the country, away from any nosey neighbors. For a mother of two, she knew she looked damn good - a youthful face and long dark hair cascading down her slim curves until it reached her waist. She had managed to keep herself in good shape throughout the years, her cooking being the backbone to her health. Goku had even taught her a few exercises and techniques - he had called them something specific, but she couldn't remember the term. They seemed like nothing more than fighting stances to her at the time, but she quickly came to cherish them for their way of calming her mind, as well as invigorating her body and spirit. The result was a woman of her age looking like she did on her wedding day, a feat she was most proud of.
Chichi wearily placed her bare feet on the warm wooden floor just as she saw her teenage son walk right by the open door to her bedroom. Her eyes widened as she shrieked, the sudden alarm causing Goten to snap his gaze through the door.
"Gah! He left the door open again!" she mindlessly shouted as she scrambled to grab the closest piece of clothing she could find.
Unfortunately for her, Goten had seen more than he ever should have in his life, his eyes wide in surprise as his face almost burned bright red. He quickly averted his eyes and made a dash for the bathroom down the hall, shouting, "I didn't see nothing, mom!"
Chichi sighed as she heard the door to the bathroom close with exaggerated enthusiasm, knowing Goten had gotten more than an eyeful. She shook her head as she wondered how many times she had told that big Saiyan of hers to close the door behind him if he ever had to leave in the middle of the night.
'If...'
To her, it seemed more like when. This had been the fifth time this week she had gone to bed with Goku, only to find him gone in the morning. She loved waking up with his arms around her, his thick, muscled chest pressing against her back as he quietly slept. For such a big guy, Goku slept like a giant teddy bear. He looked so harmless while sleeping - it made it hard to believe he was the strongest protector of the planet. Instead of waking up with her, he would probably come into the kitchen, sweat dripping from his half naked body and smelling like the strong Saiyan he was, wondering what she was making for breakfast. She didn't deny how damn sexy he looked when he was sweaty after his workouts - his bulging muscles glowing in the sunlight as beads of sweat dripped from his chiseled curves - but the smell left much to be desired.
Even still, she couldn't see herself without him. For better and for worse, she loved him with all her heart. She loved the two children he had blessed her with, and although she was hard on all three of her Saiyans at times, she wanted only the best for them.
But for some reason, this morning, Chichi couldn't feel it. She knew she loved her family, especially her Goku - so why was it so hard to feel as of late? Only recently had she found herself unable to feel love - for anything or anyone. Could it be because of her nightmares? They had started a few weeks ago, but she could hardly remember anything from them: no sight, sound, color or scent. Nothing would resurface, and it left her upset at her own failure. All she knew was that they were getting worse - and that scared her.
She made her way into the bathroom connected to her bedroom, clothes in hand, and stared blankly into her own dark eyes as she mindlessly went about her morning routine. Sunlight lit the large bathroom with ease, coloring the walls in an orange hue. The bright light reflected off the shower door directly into her eyes, causing her head to ache. Surprised at her own sensitivity, she shielded her eyes and approached the window to close the blinds.
The hardest part of getting ready was putting all that hair up - Chichi knew Goku liked how long her hair was, and so did she - it was just... this morning, everything felt more difficult than it really was, and she couldn't understand why. She grabbed a pair of copper-red lacquered chopsticks and bundled her hair so that the sticks made an 'x' atop the back of her head. For a moment, she could have sworn her hand trembled as she held her hair in place. Was she so tired that her whole body was being affected?
Staring at her hand, she began to think about her recently discovered fatigue - the idea made her worry. What was making her so tired all of a sudden? She had been feeling fine right up to a few days ago, but things started to go south after last weekend. She remembered the night Goku had accidentally leant over the hot stove while talking to her and knocked over a pot of stew she had prepared for their dinner. Thankfully it hadn't gotten very hot, but it had led to Goten placing a pizza order the size of a Saiyan appetite. It was more than they could afford at the time, but it was more appealing than having Goku go into the forest and bring home dinner in the form of a lifeless animal. Despite her worries, she still found herself smiling as she watched her husband take two large pizzas to himself, finishing them before she had gone through her usual two pieces. The very sight had just made her happy - and that night had made her even happier.
But since then, Chichi had found herself progressively becoming more tired during the day. And it seemed that today would follow the same trend. At this rate, she'd need to go see a doctor soon. Goku would just suggest a Senzu and say it would make everything alright, but she didn't believe all her problems would be cured with a small green bean. He swore by them, but she wasn't convinced. And then there was Dende, the strange alien who looked like Piccolo atop that tall tower in the north. Goku had mentioned something about him having special healing powers once. How could she know? He was an alien after all, and the last one she'd met had tried to kill her husband. It was hard not to trust in those outer-world concepts when she was married to an alien herself.
"Alien... yeah right," she caught herself muttering as she slipped a pair of black panties over her knees. Sure, Goku was a Saiyan, and so were her sons, but they weren't green. And besides, the tails were very intriguing. They were very soft to the touch and they could move them at their will as if they were another arm. She had also noticed that they had this strange ability to release a scent into the air - almost like an emotional response. Chichi didn't find the scent appealing at all - in fact, it was similar to what Goku smelled like while he was sweating - but she assumed it worked wonders on other Saiyans. She was most aware of it when Goku got that look in his eyes - the kind that said she wouldn't be getting much sleep. Chichi smiled to herself as the thought of being trapped under that heavy body formed within her mind, the wet heat and sound of burning pants filling her ears as she continued to get dressed. She would have her shower later, hopefully with the big Saiyan she missed when she woke up.
Having donned a night-shirt over her bare breasts, Chichi put on her housecoat and went to tie the dark sash around her waist. As she looked down at her waist, a sudden wave of light-headedness washed over her. Desperately grabbing onto the bathroom counter, she struggled to regain her balance as her eyes waved in and out of focus.
'Oh Gods...'
Chichi gasped as a new thought flashed before her eyes. Could she be pregnant again? She quickly searched her feelings - there was no major nausea, no morning convulsions, and she certainly hadn't missed anything. No, she was certain she wasn't pregnant again - but maybe she would just have to wait and see how she felt in the next few days... Was this all just the result of being tired?
Just as she was considering going back to bed, the light-headedness passed and her world came back into focus. She raised her head and stared into the mirror, half-expecting to see some physical evidence of what had just happened. Instead, her reflection stared right back at her, looking perfectly fine as always.
Chichi tied her sash with shaking hands and went back into the bedroom. She stared at the unmade bed and, for the first time in her married life, she left it that way. She would make it when she was feeling better. Glancing out the window, she could see the perfect morning the world had prepared to greet her - but she couldn't feel the joy such a sight would normally bring her. This fatigue was frustrating enough, but now it was robbing her of the small joys she found in life around her.
Silently shrugging off her problems, Chichi gathered herself and walked out into the hallway. She would prepare breakfast for her family, and greet her loving husband when he eventually made his appearance.
A/N: Well, thus ends my very first attempt at writing a DBZ Fanfic! This is just the prologue - I have a lot of ideas I want to move with.
