For What it's Worth

AN: Yes, the boys are old enough in this. I am disregarding all events in GT, but still using the boys assumed age and everything.

Ch. 1 Think of it as your purpose.

Trunks sighed as he let his forehead fall, just a little too hard on the counter. He was so tired of hearing his father rant on about how he needed to train more and that he had been too caught up with his mother’s work. He hated hearing this rant, because it always hit something in him that made him feel way to useless. It did not help to actually have Goku in on it this time as well. Why did his father have to start this when Goku and Goten were at their house?

He groaned and looked over at the younger half breed next to him. Goten had the same bored look on his face as he rolled his eyes. He really had way better things to do than train… like girls? Yes, girls, he knew there was something more important. It was not like when he was younger and striving to be like his father, growing up half the time without Goku made Goten want to be way to much like a normal teenager. Trunks followed suit when it didn’t seem Vegeta was going to get through to him.

“You guys have to keep training so that in case anything happens to me or Vegeta you can one day protect the world.” Goku said, way to cheerful.

Trunks glared at him for a long moment, thinking about how that would work. There was still Gohan, it’s not like they were lacking in half Saiyans or anything, and it would have helped if Vegeta had even made his daughter train like the rest of them.

“Yeah, okay… we get it already.” Trunks complained, way beyond frustrated with the two. He was just in the kitchen for something to eat, not get a life lecture. He shut his mouth quickly before saying anything else when Vegeta gave him a stern glare.

“Does that mean you are going to train?” Goku asked in his naivety. He was way too hopeful for the boys.

“Sure, we’ll start when we get back home.” Goten waved him off. His father had promised them camping after all and he did not want to be denied that. He loved camping; it was like a get away from… well, from his mother.

Vegeta laughed and it startled the younger boy as he looked over at him. “You think that camping didn’t mean training?”

“Wha… what…?” Goten’s frown was hard to not notice as he looked over at his father, wishing that he would tell him otherwise.

“Ah, man… are you serious?” Trunks restrained from rolling his eyes, he knew that his father’s bad temper would make this a losing argument for the boys. He didn’t have hope that Goku would make it better like Goten did.

“Yep.” Goku smiled awkwardly, knowing that it was breaking his youngest son’s heart to just go out and train. He really had no idea why it was that big of a deal.

Finally Trunks gave up; the look that his father was boring into him was to daunting to do otherwise. “Whatever, now I get the chance to show Goten how much stronger I am than he is.” He laughed as he tried to play off the unwanted glare and causing his father to smirk instead.

“Yeah… well, I… like to see you try!” Goten had struggled to get the words out before he finally did. What could he have said anyways? Trunks was a little intimidating to the younger boy.

.......

Trunks’ blue eyes stared up at the ceiling as he struggled to find it in him to get up and turn the lights off. Goten had already fallen asleep and Trunks’ never made a move to get up. He peeked over his bed to his best friend that was sleeping on a mat only a few steps from his bed. He couldn’t believe the other had fallen asleep already; they usually stayed up at least a couple of hours later.

They both did have to get up super early anyways to go ‘camping’ aka training with their fathers. Trunks groaned to himself. He did not want to handle a camping trip with the two, or even camping. Why had Goten been convincing him so hard that they were not going to have their parents there? Trunks really thought it was just going to be him and the younger half breed.

That would have been a lot better trip. Trunks was aching for some time alone with his best friend. They haven’t got to hang out a lot lately since Chichi was making Goten study so hard for college. How can a mother be so overbearing? The poor boy. They used to have so much fun together and get in a lot of trouble, which was all Trunks’ fault, it was amazing how Chichi failed at an attempt to keep them away from one another for good. He knew she didn’t like him very much for all the things he got Goten into.

He shook his head, he was thinking about that way too much. He shouldn't care that it wasn’t just the two of them; after all he was going to get to spend some ‘nice daddy’ time too. ‘Ugh, like that would be any magical moment either.’

He gave up on giving himself excuses and sat up from his bed and so that he could switch the light off. It was going to be a long week and Trunks needed to get the little rest he was going to get during that time, all put away now.
